Mugen Gymkhana 4-2-1 & Twinloop ground clearance

    Hey everybody,

Just wanted to get some feedback & opinions on Mugen exhaust components for a DC2R:

    1. On the basis that an R is sitting 3/4" - 1" lower than standard, the research I have completed so far indicates that the Mugen 4-1 header (like most 4-1's) has average ground clearance. But how about the Gymkhana 4-2-1? It seems that the Toda & Js Racing 4-2-1 designs have the best clearance sitting slightly higher than the oil pan. On the other hand I believe that the Spoon 4-2-1 sits pretty damn low. But I haven't been able to confirm anything on the Gymkhana.

    2. Alot of U.S based owners have commented on clearance issues with the Mugen twinloop system. Again considering a 3/4" - 1" lowered ride height, it seems that the resonator on the B-Pipe is the culprit, with the rear section incorporating the twinloop muffler itself not causing any dramas. Seeing as they make also make a version specifically for the U.S delivered R's (which I assume has smaller piping & is shorter in length to cater for a longer cat), there maybe a difference in resonator size. As of yet, I haven't been able to confirm whether any Twinloop users here in Aus are having the same clearance dilemmas. As I know there are a quite a few ClubITR members running the JDM specification twinloop, I was hoping to get some feedback about whether anyone is having similar dramas.

    Thanks heaps guys

i run the JDM 4-1's with a skunk2 cat back and find i only scrape at the centre resonator and sometimes the exhaust tip...

but i have height adjustable suspension, so not sure if it is still at OEM height...

i am upgrading(?) to a set of HyTech replica 4-2-1 headers, which i am told will improve my header clearance significantly...

        Here's my setup

I think ull find it help ful.

Well I have had a stainless 2.5" B pipe and Canon sitting in the garage for almost a year now.

My exhaust before was a Mugen 4-2-1 with a 2.5" collected mated to a 2.25" stock B pipe, mated to a hacked up mugen twin loop.

        Now the new set-up comprises.
        Mugen 4-2-1 Headers
        SMSP 200 Cell Cat
        2.5: Hytech Bpipe
Mugen Twinloop with 2.5 Inch piping
For the track I can swap on the Hytech canon and swap off the twinloop. Both fit perfectly.

The new set-up feels awesome, noticed an instant change in performance. Can't wait to get an ECU and then on tot he dyno.

The sound is even better, nice rumble with the twinloop and not to loud on part throttle, on full throttle the exhaust is actually very quiet, can't hear anything over the motor.

        Anyways heres some pics.

Hakken at Northmead Performance Exhausts did the work. Top notch guy
