    Petrol Light

Okay tonight was driving home and was feeling kind of proud as I was getting 540Km out of a tank of petrol and the light hadnt turned on.

Thinking it was the fine work my recent injector clean/service I had a big smile on my face until exiting the cross city tunnel going up the hill I started to get massive hesitations from the throttle.

This is when reality slapped me in the face.

I barely managed to get up the hill and when on level ground the fuel flow returned to normal.

I rushed to the Mobil around the corner at kensington and filled up.

Cursing my mechanic thinking he had stuffed something up I realised when i had filled up the machine read. 50.63 Litres.

So I was running on empty (considering its an ~50L tank) - phew!

Now I ask myself the question - usually my fuel light turns on well before this (I think 5L to go)

Why did it not turn on this time and put me in this predicament!?!?

Don't always trust the fuel light. trust the reading from the gauge.

The fuel light tends to come on when he's bored.

            It usually does come on.

when you turn your car to accessories aka reds (2nd turn on the ignition) all the lights will flash like its christmas on your dash and dissapear in due course.... does your fuel light come on when you do this? if it doesnt you have a screwed bulb as tinkerbell is alluding to.

Otherwise happy hunting with your fuel sensor/sender/thingymajig...

                  Okay just went and checked.

Turned it to second position where all the lights come on and the fuel light does not come on.

                  How do I fix this?

No; I enjoy my car most when there is minimal weight in it

take the cluster out, take the globe to <insert parts store> get a replacement and bobs your uncle.

Case of the missing fuel light closed!

                        Good work tinker...

Try that first as suggested, the easiet thing to do.

I don't know about you but if you want your car to be light weight then try losing a few kilos. I been personally trying this for ages..... Oh that and some volks, spoon calipers, spoon rotors etc....... No fat chicks

I doubt the extra fuel affects performance that much

                            Volks would do nicely....

Cant lose much of 60Kg @ 5ft. 8in without looking fully sick. (in the bad way)

I find that the car feels alot more balanced and calm with a full tank of fuel in it.

But on a nice cold dry night with only myself and 5L of fuel in it - its in another world :-D

i run a surge tank so as to improve lap times, so 'fuel weight' is not actually a trivial matter...
