Shift at the rev limiter... your revs will drop to a higher power output in the next gear. Shifting right at peak power is silly. If you shifted at peak power in a DC2R you would likely fall out of VTEC in the next gear.Originally posted by Zakarados View PostSo, theoretically what would be the best point to shift to get best performance from a engine getting peak KW at 7800RPM and rev cutout at 8600RPM? Very interesting.

Rev limiter = fuel cut.Originally posted by tinkerbell View Postwhat on earth are you talking about?

Less fuel/no fuel = Lean ---> Detonation.

power is irellevent. torque is the king!Originally posted by Zakarados View PostSo, theoretically what would be the best point to shift to get best performance from a engine getting peak KW at 7800RPM and rev cutout at 8600RPM? Very interesting.
you should shift so that you end up in the peak torque in the next gear...... retired/

On fuel cut - I have seen cars puff out smoke when hitting the limiter.Originally posted by tinkerbell View Posti meant what are you talking about with the "smoke" comment.

Yeah this is incorrect. Are you suggesting that I should change gears in my Charger to place me at 3000rpm in the next gear where peak torque is and that arriving in the next gear at say 4000rpm where I have more power available is bad?Originally posted by tinkerbell View Postpower is irellevent. torque is the king!

To say nothing of the fact that spending longer in the previous gear would give higher torque at the wheels and better accelleration. The only reason to shift before redline is if torque and hence power fall off so quickly that the car will accelerate slower in the lower gear. Pretty rare in a DOHC honda where torque holds well to very high revs.Last edited by ChargeR; 29-08-08, 04:43 PM.
