sub installation help!!

hi guys, trying to install a sub into my dc5r,

bought an amp today, just a shitty audioline one to power the sub

one of the previous owners of my car had a sub and amp in the back and left the wires, ive plugged the ground, remote/signal and power wires into the amp.

ive checked that both the ground and power cables are connected.

ive plugged the sub into the amp but nothings working

so im wondering whether its the signal/remote cable thats effed up or its the sub thats effed up, ive changed both the cables running to the sub from the amp, and the cables from the sub box to the sub and still no luck

also is there any way to check if the remote/signal line is working? theres no keys to the headunit so i cant check

any help would be appriciated

the fuse probably would have been taken out if there were still wires in the boot as leaving it in could still cause the power cables to short out on just about anything metal. check that the fuse in the fuseholder in the engine bay is still good. if not replace it.

which headunit is it running off? OEM?

maybe you could grab a test light to check the remote cable. you can get them from supercheap auto for a couple bucks. If it's dead, you could run a new one from the cig lighter or something to the boot.

another way that you could test it is to split the remote cable in 2 and use it to power up the amp by connecting it to both the power and remote terminals on the amp, although don't put any load on it or you will probably pop a fuse.

check the fuses on the amp too if it has any.

im running an after market sony headunit, from the previous owner,

if the fuse in the fuseholder is blown, wouldnt the amp get no power? im not sure though

also its a mono block amp, if that makes any difference

if the fuse is busted... then no power. that's probably easiest to check. open bonnet and follow the power cable from the battery to the fuse if you can't find it. if theres no fuse... PUT ONE IN!

also is there any way to check if the remote/signal line is working?

do you have a voltmeter/multimeter?
