    Air Intake Options

I know many people here have differant oppinions on the gains of differant styles of air intake, like the normal short ram intake and the cai. Many dc2 owners invest the hundeds of dollars in the mugen, and as i PM'd tinkerbell in response to his suggestion of the stock airbox and the drop in K&N filter he asked me to make a thread so we can get everyones oppinions as some of us arnt fully aware of the cheaper options which are possibly just as good.

so, what are your oppinions on the differing styles of intake for the dc2 and dc5 ?

i ran an INJEN CAI for the track all year,

it is very good as it breathes very well, and i have noticed a very slight drop in top end power going back to the OEM air box...

the INJEN is a 'tuned length' intake, that has a power 'dip' at around 3 or 4 thousand RPM,

i don't think the Mugen has such a dip due to having a short intake length as it uses the OEM intake pipe...

DC2 and DC5 have VERY different designs in air boxs (B18c intake mainifold is at the back of the engine where as K20a is at the front). So i think you should keep this thread model specific, or else it'll get to confusing.

Everyone i know with a Mugen one is happy. I had the KN filter in stock box, didn't do it for me really.

If you decide to go with a KN pm me.

for some reason as soon as i got my dc5 people told me to do the 'Hondata Airbox mod' but i havnt seen any directions on this or heard anyone tell me how their car felt after doing it. Pretty ghetto from what i can gather... Im pretty keen on sticking to the GruppeM for the Dc5

A friend used a drop-in K&N filter on his DC2R his comment and mine are pretty much the same where the K&N makes the car feels smoother whilst accelerating. About the gain we couldn't notice much except for the fact that with the K&N it makes that whistling noise..

After awhile, he got the Mugen intake... It is such a pain in the butt to install for us (mayb different for other people..) but anyways, the Mugen seems to make the car even smoother whilst accelerating... We felt (from our butt) that below 3.5k rpm there's no noticable gain on the car, but above 3.5k the car seems to pull considerably harder until redline. It felt like the car now have more torque..

Whistling noise still there if not it is louder and you can sorta hear the intake sound when idling (kinda hard to explain)... but anyways, he was happy with the product and can't stop bugging me to get one... Even though I'm tempted I'd prolly wait until there's one cheap enough for me to get hahahaha...

Do I want to get one? Yes.. Will I pay 8-900 bux for it ? I'll think about it... it's been more than 5 years since I know abt the Mugen Intake and I still haven't got one yet hahahaha...

Another Intake that I tried in a DC2R was the J's racing ? (Carbon fibre whale wee wee style ?) It's another different feeling... The car feels have more torque down low (feels more than the mugen) but after about 6k and above it doens't pull that much anymore... perhaps it's due to the design of the intake ?? not to mention taht on VTEC that thing is just SO LOUD! so loud it's annoying (for me LOL) All I can think of about that intake is just the noise hahahaha...

So there you go.. hope that sorta give you some ideas on different brands... Oh and btw.. the Mugen one had header and exhaust where as the J's one just stock exhaust..

perhaps the top end restriction on the j's racing intake was the stock exhaust?
                interesting thread..
anyone had gruppe m intake on dc2r? i'm interested int his intake..

thisd is the "power dip" i was referring to in my post above:

only appeared after the INJEN installation, not on any other B20VTEC's i have dyno'd

any yes - it IS noticable on the road during normal driving...

so that is a drawback of teh long CAIs like AEM and INJEN
