    new to k20

    Hello to all ,
I am proud new owner of a dc5R and i am loving it , the comfort factor played a huge role in purchasing the dc5 over the dc2 . I previously owned a EG hatch with a Jap b16a conversion , it was a great little car with heaps of go... Which brings me to my question, my Eg was really fast and i want to start modding my dc5 i have herd that k20s respond best to a 3 inch exhaust does anybody have any experiance with this as i thought 3 inch was for turbo cars? The mods i have herd which result in the greatest gains are
    - 3 inch exhaust
    - Headers
    - intake
and Hondata ... on a mild/medium budget what are everybodys thoughts ?

    Thank-you in advance ...

    medium budget?

    fujitsubo power getter exhuast
toda headers *with or without cat, your choice*
intake *depending on if you are with the bling boys or the hate mugen boys*

i reckon that should be fine. I dont know of any jap exhuasts made for dc5 that comes 3" so if you want a 3" you will have to get it fabricated.

    Welcome btw

mo please move this to tech

A full 3 inch ... On a 4 cylinder 2 litre engine? Even the F20c struggles to perform without proper complimenting modifications in place for this extravagant size/modification. I highly doubt the K20a is going to be even more optimal in response or power extraction.

noel, join the rest of the non-believers. the results are very telling from those whom have tried 3" exhausts on an n/a k20a. defies accepted convention but the results thus far prove that the k20a likes big exhausts.

Got any dyno sheets to show power curve?
Yes peak power might be better but average power between 4k-8k might be sacrificed. In a daily car this would be detrimental. (IMO)

if not for clubrsx prune i could search and tell you. don't you remember about 6months maybe a year ago during all the ecu wars a new ecu developer whom wanted to keep his ecu name annonymous at the time posted a thread asking for people to subject their cars for testing or something. his company had been working on tuning the k20 and he noted that he tried a 3" exhaust and there was even more power given and he was considering trying an even larger exhaust!

also, correct me if i'm wrong but badhbt has a 3" custom exhaust on my motor and pumped out like 158kwatw or something. granted it also had a custom intake manifold but adrian tells me he thinks the results are attributed mostly (almost completely) to the exhaust.

so did he try the same tune with a 2.5" exhuast to see that it is making more power then 2.5"?

man, you're going on my memory here. i could only assume that he went from 2.25 or 2.5 up to 3 and then reported it. all i remember is what i've stated above. he reported that he was astonished that the k20a responded better to 3" and wanted to test an even larger exhaust.

i found this discussion on CRSX.
                            http://forums.clubrsx.com/showthread...=large+exhaust
                            cliffnotes
                            - mixed opinions
                            - some suggest with cams running high cam angle, the larger the exhaust the better
                            - some suggest that with stock config you will lose mid gain and top end gains will be limited
                            - some suggest that with a more free flowing intake (IM and TB upgrade), a larger exhaust will do wonders
                            - overwhelming support for 3" exhaust by the end of the thread
