Its amazing how thicker oil makes you loose power.

I went from 0W-40 on a cold track day... to the next track day which was hotter and used 10W-50, and the car was so laggy. Possibly led me to being 0.5 seconds slower.

well, i ran Castrol 10W-60 all year on track and i felt it did not impede my rapid progress around the race circuit...

in fact, the confidence that it provided that i could push deep into the 120'C zone probly allowed me to go faster...

that said, it *might* make 0.5 difference, but unless you are a uber-excellent consistent driver, it is not going to show your circuit times...

could be just the weather though.. more toll on brakes, tyres etc etc

Project: Machine myself a heavy gear knob

Yes not saying it's definately a lost in circuit time. Althought the engine was alot laggyier, loss of response. Felt like quite a loss of power! Lets just say it was noticable, and I was extremely surprised, as I haven't experimented with many different oil brands and viscositys.

But I do agree with Tinks... using thicker oil doesn't make you worry as much.
