Yea I have the TODA kit, if Im not mistaken this means the pressure plate is balanced with the clutch disc and flywheel to provide even clamping pressure through the whole surface of the clutch material. It prevents premature decay of the clutch and better clamping. The oem pressure plate is not balanced, you can sometimes see areas around the radius where its not clamping the clutch at all
how do you find the clutch? does it bite HARD or similar to oem? any problems?
you happy with it?
Clutch is different to OEM, Its heavier and the biting point is much lower
There is less travel than OEM but there's plenty of feel
If you dump the clutch it bites pretty hard.
After 4 months.... new front and rear engine mounts, Toda clutch kit (Excedy HD clutch and toda flywheel).... and a rebuilt gearbox.
Well... let me tell you... the car is VERY different to drive. I'm only babying the car at the moment (cause of new clutch and gearbox) but the car acts very differently.
First thing you notice is that the clutch only grabs for about 5cm... So once you get use to that (takes about 30min of driving in traffic) no more stalling...
The next thing you notice is the lightened flywheel. Know this is possibility the biggest change to the car. The toda F/W is a tad over half the weight of the stock AUDM one. So what does this mean? On take off... nothing (more worried about stalling with the clutch). But once the car gets rolling... there is a noticeable difference. The cars revs just pick up a lot more freely at the tap of the accelerator... it wants to rev, any gear, and RPM.
Now the downside. Changing gears have to be a quick movement, or else the revs drop to idle... and because they are falling that quickly, it drops below idle... and the car begins to "stall". This also happens when you’re slowing down to a stop. Unless you want the car to shake for a split second when slowing down, you have to go through the gears to slow down.
As I have only driven the car for about 100km... I still have to get use to the car all over again, so I’m sure I’ll figure something out with how to drive it.
think its time for me to change clutch, just can't make up my mind about what to use... was gonna get ORC but got called an idiot as my car's a daily driver... so i'm thinking of trying out the J's racing 3.9kg flywheel along with Exedy HD clutch or sports organic. What would most of you suggest?
And would flywheels need "running in" like a clutch does? as in no harsh driving until a certain distance has been covered and such?
i'm using ORC super single, i think the pedal feel is almost same as stock or even lighter!! the only different is that it had slightly less slipping range as u slowly depress the clutch, still not ON or OFF kinda thing.
btw, i'm using the D309DS-01H1 which is for the EG6 B16, so the spring might be a bit softer, but it still rated up to 300ps i guess.
ORC sounds pretty good, is it too harsh for your gearbox with a hard clamping pressure plate? people tell me its too harsh but funny thing they've never experienced it themselves. And what is the non-silent ones sound like? i wouldn't mind the noise if it can stop me from hearing people's verbal abuses :P
It does not mater how heavy the clamping pressure is, its how you drive it and how the whole clutch combo works together. Its the shuddering and when you drop the clutch. Its these spikes in load that puts more stress on the driveline.
I also had a ORC clutch/fly in my DC2R. I had a silent one but even then it chatters a bit when you depress the peddle. Its that extra plate they have in there that rattles. The silent one has springs that push the plate away on disengagement, but it still does chatter.
Peddle pressure is like stock, but it does shudder a bit on take off, also on down changing it grabs. Time to practice your heal n toe.
This Orc clutch slipped for me and I have since changed it, but in saying that I have 200+ kw at the wheels which equates to over 300hp at the fly (in excess of the rating for the Orc). Otherwise its a really good clutch and I would recomend it to anyone.
just out of interst but wat you using now dean? i think i might hit up edward some time soon for orc clutch.. how long do these kinda clutches usually last?
With just about any clutch, that really depends on how you use it. Two extremes: If you take it easy, it will last 100k kms plus, and in turn, give it heaps, probaby a few hundred kms.
I now have a Competition Clutch:
Stage 4 Clutch kit
1900lb pressure plate
6 puck ceramic, sprung center
3.8kg steel flywheel
250% increase in torque capacity.
Too aggresssive for a daily, but weekend car is fine.
