Warning DC5 Owners - oil filter may fall off

Every Service Get the part the oil filter screw on to checked/ tightend!!! On Friday night I was jumping on the M4 east bound from the Cumberland HWY and I lost power and smoke everywhere. I immediately turned the car off and rolled to a safe position on the on ramp. I Lost all my engine oil.
What happens is that the OEM Oil filter goes on tight and when you unscrew it, it also unscrews the part you are unscrewing it from. So what happens is that the Little oil cooler that the oil filter sits on becomes loose and the little rubber sealing it comes loose and pops out.

    You have been warned!!

I got my car serviced at a reputable performance place and they dont check this/ it's not listed on the service manual to check.

Did you have an oil cooler sandwich adapter?

Stock DC5Rs have a liquid-to-oil cooler sandwiched between the oil filter and the block .

          My engine is fine

No damage. I turned the car off immediatly when i lost pressure. I still had lubrication in the engine.

The Oil pressure light came on a soon as it started leaking.
in 2 sec. the power loss, light on, smoke. engine off. Very effective light,

well It would smoke as the oil filter is near the exhaust manifold. and wasnt leaking oil. i blew the rubber ring of the oil cooler, and my filter was also loose, Vibrations i guess. but it would of never happened if the screw part was on tight.

this has happened to me before (1983 Prelude) and the oil pressure light is the first thing you notice, then the smoke appears...

the transition from "not leaking" to "leaking" is almost instantanous...

From my understanding the bolt labelled oil cooler center bolt in the above diagram of a k20a2 came loose allowing the cooler and filter to unseal and spew oil, and that's where it all went pear shaped. EL_DC5 can you confirm that this is what you mean? glad that your motor survived .
