Typical causes for engine oil contamination

    Question:
What are the typical causes for the engine oil being contaminated by petrol.

    Example.
I changed my oil about 1500kms ago and recently the engine was starting to get a little rough (when you have engine mounts, you notice rough) ...

I checked the oil and noticed it was very strong in the petrol smell and didn't have that same smooth consistency. Bit Black too, which is a little unusual for such new oil.

    - will check plugs later on... but anything else I should be looking into? Rebuild? (please say yes ... )

              Thanks Guys,
Are there any simple diagnostic steps for each typical cause?

A compression test and a exhurst gas anylizer tune-up should take out 1, 2, and possible 3

Been Tracking your car? That's why I change oil after each Supersprint.

Compression test is a good idea. If the test, is poor try this....
Do the Redex clean, thing first:-
                  1) Remove Spark plugs.
                  2) Put some in each pot.
                  3) Leave for 10mins.
                  4) hit the key, just quickly. It will spin madly without the plugs in. Removes excess Redex, spashes it around.
                  5) Repeat process....
How do an oil change & compression test.

The reason for this, is to free a stuck ring. Redex disolves carbon on contact.

Track yes but not on this oil change. I normally track on fresh oil and drain it that day/week.

This oil is pretty much street driven. Any draw backs to redex?

I know its a little off topic, but running rich, is that bad? If so, how can you sort this out? I have been told when I hit VTEC, I get a puff of black smoke out of the exhaust. Someone mentioned that I am probably running rich? I use to do extended idling waiting for people and typically do few short trips during the week, if that is a factor.

For reference, no ECU mods, just IHE.

Not really, slightly rich is better that too lean.
Rich will run cooler, but it's hard to adjust without a programable ECU, or Piggy-back A/F.

Redex - No draw-backs I know of....... just cleaning.
