DC2R one piece drivers seat legal (Vic)?

I’ve been thinking about fitting a one piece drivers seat and I’ve been told that I may face problems with this on the road. The car is registered as a 4 seater at the moment and fitting a 1 piece with 4 piece harness will obviously result in it being a 3 seater. My insurance company is okay with this, but what about the cops/Vicroads?

Has anyone been defected in Vic because of this? Has anyone specifically asked Vicroads about this or have you just driven around hoping that you wouldn’t be pinched? Would the car have to be registered as a 2 or 3 seater to comply?

Finally is mounting the rear points of a 4 point harness to the rear passenger lap mounting points okay (does it comply with the manufacturers requirements – 15 degrees from horizontal, etc). Any pics, thoughts or experiences (good or bad) from people that have done this (or anyone else who has gone through the legalities with a 2+2 say a Silvia) is appreciated.

If I change the nut behind the wheel then my sloppy lines improve and I can get some consistency to sort out my iffy handling, my worrying lack of braking ability goes away, after that I can start fretting about my suspicious lack of straight line grunt.

For NSW, the car must be able to hold what is specified with RTA. That was the situation when cops noticed no back seat in my friend's car.

So i think you will need to change it with VICRoads.

        Thanks for the replies guys.

That answers that. They aren’t legal unless I register my car as a 2 seater (which I don’t want to do).

I could probably get away with it but I don’t fancy standing by the side of the road when plod pull me over for something else and knowing that my car isn’t legal and they could slap a un-roadworthy certificate on it if they feel narky or notice.

Not sure about other states but it's legal if you have the mod plate in QLD
