    Compression and Fuel relationship

I am talking about detonation/pinging here...
remove power out of the equation...

does the ocatane of fuel limit your compression range ?

eg.. can i run 13.0cr with 98 ocatane..

    Is there a direct relation?

yes you can run 13 static compression on pump gas.
There is a limit but specifically 13:1 on pump gas is ok. It all comes down to the tuning.

so long as you've got the right bloke tuning the car, should be fine. you'd want some pretty wild cams for that CR though.

13.5 on 98 will be alright with the right tuning.

i am running 13:1 or a little more and my car does not ping what so ever.

to answer your question, yes there is a direct relationship.

The higher the octane rating the harder it is to get the fuel to ignite.

This in turn, lets you compress the air/fuel mixture more without the fuel pre-igniting due to the intense heat caused by the compression process.

The more compressed the mixture is, the more bang u gunna get outta it
