    syncro teeth...

the dc2r ive bought had a couple teeth that have been mashed up, only in 4th gear.. i can avoid if if i change slowly between 3rd and 4th, but when you start banging gears thats when it crunches... i took it 2 honda, and he confirmed what i thought.. he said about 4 teeth have been mashed nicely..

what options are there, ive been told a reconditioned box for maybe 2 grand installed? what you guys think?

2 grand is for a fully reconditioned box?

    not just 4th gear?

not a bad price if includes all new "sleeve sets", new synchros, new bearings and new seals.

Depending on the severity, you may want to try GM Syncromesh with Friction Modifier. It can prevent most "crunching" due to Syncro's going out. I know it has in my case before.

I work at a Chevrolet dealership so I can get discounts. If you want, I can get it and send it over to you. (Can you send oils over the air).

        nope.
I think that would be a band aid Might get you out of trouble for abit.

I am no g/box expert but can you just replace synchro?

replacing the 3rd-4th gear hub and syncro set can be a option (around $900 for the part), but labour will set you close to the amount that reconditioned gearbox will...
but having said that, it will give you piece of mind that the problem is fixed, as this is still the gearbox you have currently on your car...

i am quite scepticle regarding re-con boxes as i dont know anyone who has used one and you really dont know what problems it will have in the future and if it is trustworthy...id be spewing if it was a dud box...

keep in mind if you are gonna replace your 3rd + 4th, id replace them all, since the box will be open...and do clutch/flywheel too...save in labour but still quite costly...thats what id do

I think take it to Hanny's or Toda AU and get a quote. Or call either of them. I had to get the same done on my car late last year and from memory you have to buy the whole gear and syncro assembly for 3-4 which is about $450. Hanny's were going to charge me about $800 for parts and labour for 3-4 replacement.

I ended up getting mine done by TodaAU (I had some credit with them) and buying the parts myself from the US.

Didn't Toda have a group buy a while back with brand new boxes for 1800 ?

Maybe someone can organise a new group buy through Toda ?

gearspeed in the us sell the synchro hubs for about 300, their parts are genuine honda and are much much cheaper, and there service is great.

I bought my syncro's from gearspeed, I'll vouch for their service as well. I will also vouch for Toda AU doing a good job replacing the syncro's in my box.

                    Hi Guys,
Cost of rebuilding B-series gearbox is as follows:
                    B-Series Gearbox R & R - $400 incl OEM MTF
                    B-Series Gearbox overhaul - $270 + parts

We don't really say much about Honda Genuine parts we supply,
In any case, the prices for DC2 Type R Synco Hub, ring & sleeve are as follows:
                    1st & 2nd - $330
                    3rd & 4th - $210
                    5th & Rev - $210

                    Or full set - $730

We usually have a full set in stock, (more comming next week)
if not it doesn't take too long to get them in.
                    Cheers
