    Urgent help needed!

    Hi Guys,

I need some help.. I was involved in a front on accident not long ago.
At first there didnt seem to be any mechanical damage but now, a week later, my slave cylinder and gearbox mounts has cracked off.

I'm wondering if i should call my insurance to fix it up (which could drag on for weeks) or just pay for the repairs out of my own pocket.

I have been able to source a new clutch slave cylinder for $10, now just wondering if i am able to re-weld that section of the gearbox and retap new mounts..

Would it be too expensive to fix with my own money?

    1. When my mechanic first found the problem 30/4/07:

    2. Today 2/5/07:

As you can see, part of the gearbox and a part of the slave cylinder mount has cracked off.

    Car problems make me emo
Any help/advice at all would be most appreciated!

    Cheers,
    Nam.

If you want a reasonble but cheap option for the slave cylinder mount try 'quick steel'. Its like putty when you mold it into place but when it sets you can redill the hole and tap a thread in the hole. Great stuff and its $13.

I recon for somone to weld it wouldnt be more than $40! to drill an tap it (could do it your self) looks a bit hard due to the position...

I'd be willing to wait and lodge a claim with the insurance company. I'd just want it on record that there was extra damage, just incase the problem was any worse than it appeared to be or anything else emerged in the future.

              yeah thats true..
because i already have a claim with insurance, they only fixed body parts and did not find any mechanical damage at the time.

its just an inconvenience to not have a car

Sorry for the OT, but your first picture is perfect. If you have a squeaky clutch the the bit under the black boot is what needs to be greased up
