So recently I was lucky enough to be provided with a Hondata KPRO ECU from my wonderful other half, Vincent with his DIY backyard tuning
Anyhow just wanted to share my experiences with it so far and i've gotta say it is lotsa fun and so so good!
The difference is noticeable especially with the extra 'torque' i get from it. When tuning the map, a LOT of fuel was taken off so it's fair to say the Type S in its stock form is running very rich in fuel. My low end and mid range is better but my top end is very good for a stock little thing (But then again, my map is pretty perfect and on-par atm )
What was required was the 02-04 ECU which was modified for use in a 05-06 rsx + harness + 02 sensor.
From my experience, the KPRO ran fine with the stock narrow band sensor and it didn't throw a CEL or anything and was able to run from the Gold Coast to Brisbane with no probs. However, it's not wise to 'tune' on it cos the figures will be wrong.
My fuel economy is better and at the moment I'm trying to aim for 600kms a tank lol... I think it's possible if I drive how I normally do but with the last tank which was driven quite freely - it still got me about 80kms more than what I normally would (I think - I can't base this on anything because I filled up before it was empty - just an assumption)
But yeah, the car hasn't been dynoed or anything yet so I'd be interested in finding out how much more it's given my car.
My car is completely stock with only the ecu and comparing it with Vincent's other customers with a stock Type R and ecu - he says the Type S is a better platform and shows better gains.
Now I just have to wait for a better intake and make my car faster!
Overall: Would I recommend it? It's a very costly mod with the ECU alone being about $2.6k and that is without tuning. Once you get into the prices of tuning unless you're doing it yourself, then it will get very expensive. I'm fortunate enough to have someone who did everything for me so I'm very happy with my mod and basing it on the gains itself, I'd say it's made my car a lot quicker especially since it's still completely stock.
If anyone else wants to upgrade their ECU, give Vincent a tingle or PM me if you want Happy to help since it's scarce for someone to put an ECU in the Type S
[The information above is from my personal experiences - dont take it as fact should anything occur....]
