DIY or pro' to install roll cage?

    hey people

i got a bolt on roll cage (7point), i was gonna install it myself (need help for that too.. haha) .. but just for safety would it be better to get a pro' workshop to get it done.? or its traight forward enough to DIY with no safety issues.

does anyone know places in sydney?? and how much it would cost?

    or

can anyone help me out installing it DIY.. and they know wat they are doing.

    thanks

do you want it to be legal for the road?

or is it a track only car?

it would be great to have it legal. but i didnt think it was legal to have it on a street car anyway?

i will eventually get my car engineered but not for awhile.

its not a track car only.

well it is absolutely logical that rollcages are there to protect

However given the wrong set of equipement/circumstances it could be fatal.

IE, a person that welds monkey bars just for the sake of it not factoring in the drivers height nor car design.

IE, on the road when you are not wearing harness/helmet.

RTA most likely wants to reduce these issues. From my welder its known that RTA always goes back and forth with these kinds of rules but it seems like they are finally sticking to it now.

What are the regulations on cages?

What can and cannot be made street legal?

hey Anton...intstalling a 7 point Cusco/Safety 21 cage is easy mate. just have a metal drill and u should be fine. As long as u got the bolts and the plates there shouldnt be too much hassels.

im pretty sure if u take it to a pro, im pretty sure they would do just the same thing as its only a bolt on cage. remember the cage u got is made for ur car so it should fit in sweet.

here is a pic of a Safety 21 7 point bolt in cage for a dc2.

                  hey mofo,

thanks... i realised i didnt get plates with the cage..(didnt even know about them) so that means i need some plates made up too + bolts that go into the chassis.

                  anyone can help me out?

i think ill DIY the install.. doesnt look hard. just worried about safety.

but for street i wont be riding with the whole cage.

                    Half cage can be engineered.

I needed to buy plates for my cage also. I got them thru bond rollbars, google them.

Its pretty straight forward installing a roll cage if you know what your doing. If you not confident doing ill let a workshop or pro to do it. I went too a few workshops in Sydney and they refuse to install the cage.

Make sure your bolts & plates are rated.
                      Easy to DIY.

Getting it legal is going to be a bit of a grey answer. I guess it comes down to what the engineer thinks of it.

Fast eddy told me you can't get any cages engineered (legitimately) as of last year.. seems pretty stupid to me, but thats the RTA

ISMR shouldn't have any problems doing the install.

Rated as in tensile strength of the bolt is to spec for a rollcage.
