    suspension height

    Hey guys,

    looking at gettin coilovers for my DC5R,
    question is .. how low can you take it before you start really affecting and wearing excessively the suspension parts?
    I dont want to go silly low but as you know.. stock suspension is high as a four wheel drive.
    legal height would be ok but would that start to wear out everthing quickly?
    will be getting function XS or tein supersport.

    those 2 are quite different coilovers afaik.

      tein = good "cheap" coilover
      Function XS are zeal right.... if they are they are awesome "expensive" coilovers.

        Suspension wear and tear is more attributed from distance/mileage vs. height and damper changes. If you're really serious, every 20~25K. For street use, 80-100K would be a more feasible number.

          Would suggest gettiing a set of aftermarket springs (there are heaps of pics of different heights an springs if you search) they will be cheaper an if you get ones that aren't a big drop the ride will be just a little bit stiffer.

          i got coilovers but i really dont need the ajustabilty(*?)

            Simple replacement springs with OEM shocks are bad idea. Consider that OEM shock rebound rates are not designed for the "progressive" lowered height aftermarket springs. What happens is, you'd incur premature wear and tear on the shocks causing them to fail very quickly at the same time, your handling isn't improved, only deteriorated from the wrong shock rebound rates not matching the spring rates. Apart from having a lowered look, there is nothing else being served in a positive direction. Otherwise known as, "the racing look".

            The correct way to do it is replacement springs and shocks at the same time. You don't have to get coilovers if you aren't interested in further ride height changes or find coilover adjustments useless. Plenty of aftermarket replacement shocks from Koni (in most common/affordable pricing) to Bilstein. These aftermarket shocks will offer you the right rebound rates to compliment the higher progressive spring rates to improve handling and a reduced ride height at the same time.

                how about changing the AUDM DC5R suspension to a JDM ones..?

                would it have a big effect..? (better handling)

                do you need to change anything to install the JDM suspension..? (shocks,lca)

                is it true that the JDM suspension is lower by 15mm..?

                and would it be better to install a spoon or eibach progressive springs to the JDM suspension and get a suitable shock to go with..?
