    DC5 midrange

    Hey guys,

Ive had a DC5R for a year or so now 02' model and ive been pretty happy with it but im wondering what would be the first step for abit more midrange.
Im finding it abit flat before vtec .. from 4-6k rpm.
Someone told me that Evan (evatec) can supply programmed ecu's?
Anyone have any ideas or his contact no?
Im in Brisbane and would love to hear if anyone knows who is really clued up on working and tuning a DC5R.

    thanks
    Dan

How much midrange are you after ahd how much are you willing to spend?

One of the members around here is looking to part with his Jackson Racing supercharger and that would pack a punch in the midrange.

Also, Vincent is up near the Goldcoast also deals with Hondata. Might also be worth talking to him.

Really depends on how deep your pockets are.
I mean even a tuned VAFC would give you bit more mid-range and throttle response.

ECU and a good header should do the job.

          Final Gear maybe?

Your best bet would be headers if you dont already have them and then a k-pro and a good tune.

Evan or Vincent Can supply you the ECU, I don't know if Evan will tune you car or not, nor can i speak for vincent. APC know how to tune hondata tho.

correct me if im wrong, but a K-pro on a fully stock DC5R is capable of bringing the power up to about 120 - 125kw atw....

my car is currently tuned by chapman and chapman but he doesnt have much experience with DC5's.

what are you currently running then if it's tuneable since you're going to Chapman and Chapman?

nothing... the car is stock standard.. he just tunes it to the best of his ability but id like a little more punch in the mid range. just seems really flat there. he says to stay away from any of the piggy back systems like hks but i dont really know wat my options are.
honda mechanics have told me to leave the car alone because its fairly well tuned and set up already standard.... i dont know.

how can Chapman and Chapman tune a standard car?

What do they modify or tune to get more power from it?

no idea.. guess he just makes sure everythings firing properly...oil and fluid service.. brakes... he did say that he cant program the ecu tho so he cant improve the performance of the car.. just makes sure its running at its optimum the way it is.

                          Hondata is a programable ECU.

you can car a few differant models of it, rangeing from K100 to Kpro

K100 is a very basic tuneable ECU. you get it tuned once, and thats it, if you need to get it tuned again, it needs to be done by a Hondata person... thus more time on the dyno

Kpro is the way to go. This ECU is fully tunable via laptop. the intial outlay is more then the K100, but the fact that you can get it tuned once on a dyno, then play around with it on your own PC later one (if you want to) means the future costs are less... that and it has a few other bits K100 dosnt

a full stock DC5r should be running around 115FWKW (mine has 116 ) so the fact that you CAN gain 10kw AT THE WHEELS just by doing this mod is awesome.

ofcourse you can do a few of the basic bolt on mods, full exhuast, intake... but Hondata would be the best mod to if you are keen.

                            Hi Dan,

I have fitted a few programmed ECUs (Hondata K-Pro) to standard DC5R cars with no other modifications. Definitely improves the mid-range. It is still a fair amount of money. There are two ways to go. Firstly, you can have your standard ECU modified with the fitting of a Hondata K-pro electronic add-in card that I can supply for $1295* fitted and tuned ready to go. The downside is that the ECU is permanently altered. Secondly, you can simply purchase another ECU and have it modified with a Hondata K-Pro system. It costs more, but if you want to sell your car, you can simply fit the original ECU back in the car and sell the spare ECU. For a brand new Honda ECU with Hondata K-Pro modification I can supply for $1995* with it already tuned for a stock DC5R. Simply plug in and away you go. You can always look around for a second-hand ECU and have it modified and save some money.

Even better still, since you live in Brisbane, I can give you a loan of an ECU modified with the Hondata K-Pro system so you can try before you buy. Send me a pm and we can go from there if you like. Only takes a few minutes to fit the ECU to your car which I can do for you.

                            * Price includes a tuned program for the car. Price is subject to change depending on the exchange rate between Australia and the US. The tuning program I developed has been tested on several standard DC5R, but it should be noted that the tuning is for at least 98 octane fuel. 100 octane fuel (like the Shell V-Power Racing) is great particularly for the track on a hot day.
