DC2R Hardrace RTA bush install issues

    Hi All,

So I decided to replace my RTA's on my 2000 DC2R,

Bought a Schley bush removal tool from the US, and it's a nicely made item which helped remove the OEM bush no problem at all.

The problem started while trying to install the Hardrace items, I could just not get them to go in straight at all, and in the end,
managed to damage them as they would start leaning to one side (which I didn't notice at first) and the pressure ended up bending them.

I tried using the 2nd bush, with a touch of axle grease around the edge, same problem, so now I have 2 brand new hardrace bushes that
are damaged and unusable. I tried the OEM busing again, and it went back in with no issue.

So after wasting a number of hours and throwing away money, not sure what to do.

Honda want around $1000 for a set of RTA's (they dont sell the bush separate) but don't want to kill another set if Hardrace is my only option.

From what I can tell, there's maybe a 1mm difference in the diameter of the Hardrace to the OEM ones, and the Hardrace doesn't have much of a chamfer on them to help it locate.

I didn't really want to have to remove the arms entirely as the whole idea of the Schley tool is you don't have to. And the OEM goes in and out no problems.

    Any help or ideas appreciated.

    Cheers

    Chris

Honda sell the RTA bush separately, and have done so since they became a common wear issue in the US. The part number I used on my CR-X and Civic was: 52385-S21-003 This part number should fit a DC2R, as far as I know there is only 2 different commonly used trailing arm bushes, the big one for the DA Integras, and everything else (88-00 Civic, 93-00 Integra). Just order it from Amayama or something.

The Honda part is tapered and presses in easily.

    EDIT: Here's the TSB http://www.performanceforum.com/wesv...ing/report.pdf

How far gone are the hardrace bushes? Are you able to chamfer the bush yourself exactly like OEM?

Thanks ChargeR, that part number did not seem to come up on Amayam, but that service bulletin is awesome!

T-BaGGer, one of the bushes is now egg shaped with no way of fixing it (tried with a hammer, but made the shape worse), and the other is slightly out of round now too, so don't want to trust it.

I am thinking to get another set of the Hardrace ones and file down a taper on them, but going to see if I can track down another brand first.

Do the OEM ones meant for the DC2R come in a harder rubber than if you buy the ones that go in any Civic?

I have ordered a set of OEM ones from Japan, so hopefully will have a crack at it again in a couple of weeks, would be nice if it all works well with the Schley tool

I have a pair of OEM bushes. You can also get urethane replacement bushes for these also..
Very easy to installed without removing arm..
