    Gear shifter stuck?

    Hi guys,

I got in my car this morning, put my foot on the clutch, and turned it on and shifted to first when I noticed that the lever didn't want to move into first gear. It doesn't want to shift to any other gear either and at the best it's very difficult to shift into those gears. If I switch the car off however it changes gear fine and doesn't seem to have a problem at all. What on Earth is causing this issue and how can I get it resolved? I use the car as my daily and really don't want to be stuck without it

    clutch broken - $500

clutch master cylinder broken - $150

clutch slave cylinder broken - $50

    clutch hydraulics needs refil/bleeding - $15

check for leaks in hydraulic lines - $0

work your way up from the cheapest one

Ok guys I think I resolved the issue.

I took the car to a mechanic yesterday to inspect the metallic scraping sound when I turned seeing myself and no one else could figure out what it was. He found and fixed the issue and I told him if he could do anything about my clutch squeaking when I used it while he had it. When I got the car back later The clutch felt a bit lighter but the squeaking was gone so I didn't take much notice to it.

As a trouble shooting step first I let the car warm up but still no dice, so I came on here and posted this thread. Just then I tried pumping the clutch a few times to get pressure in the lines and now the car can shift gears fine and the clutch got a little heavier to how it usually feels in the process. Let's just see if this holds..

Because if it's something simple which it turned out to be I'd rather troubleshoot myself first... And to be honest you guys answer quicker on the forums than it does for this guy to pick up the phone sometimes.

it sounds like a serious problem to me, there is nothing 'simple' about not being able to put the car into gear and drive!

you appear to have a damaged part or fluids problem somewhere.

the worst place to troubleshoot is on the side of a freeway... or in a carpark that is being locked in 20mins.

especially if the person who last worked on your car (and changed how your clutch operates *somehow*) doesnt pick up his/her phone regularly...

please dont take it the wrong way, but i reckon you need to speak to the mechanic and find out for sure why you couldn't drive your car this morning...

At least find out exactly what the mechanic did, that info might point you in the right direction

Alright cheers for the advice mate, You're right that I should at least go back and find out exactly what he did It's been driving perfect since pumping the clutch this morning at least which is the good part. For now at least I'm also gonna get some fluids and look at changing fluid for the transmission and clutch since they are due for a change
