Oil change before track time?

I'm going out to Wakefield this week and just realised I hadn't done an oil change. Last change was about 2000kms ago (I do them every 3000 or 4 months) and its running Royal Purple 5-30 (48K kms on the odometer).

Worth doing a change before the day? It's a learning day so I sincerely doubt I'll be even slightly fast

I wouldn't. I mean, I have close to no experience but your oil isn't that old... I doubt it's broken down enough to warrant changing. The protection barrier it will give you is, in my opinion, miniscule.

I'd just change it after the day.

That's only my bullshit opinion - the more intelligent people here will correct me if I'm wrong.

i wouldnt change it if it is so fresh, but i am pretty unpedantic.

i would ensure my brake fuild was 100% on an old low km car,

I would change to a thicker viscosity oil.

We use Penrite 10 Tenths Racing 15W50 in all of our track cars and find that we are burning off less oil at the track, along with keeping oil temps & pressure in check

2,000kms is nothing for a full synthetic oil. Your oil viscosity sounds fine for ambient temperatures around this time of year. A 30 weight is going to be fine.

However, be aware that Royal Purple doesn't have a great reputation that when it comes to oils on track - do a search in google for "Royal Purple shearing". IMO, you'll be fine for the next track day.

Cheers guys, thought I'd do an insurance check and dumped the sump, spun on a new filter and dropped in 10-40. It was darkening up - still leaning towards golden brown rather than black but it's been sitting a bit so I figured what the hell.

I only run RP because it's what the previous owner ran it on it - I don't seem to lose oil on the street so I've stuck with it. I'll have a look at other options later on
