yeah i have switched to using this software on my nokia N95 with a 5Hz GPS unit. Accuracy is better than 0.1sec. does sectors and its great cos it shows your speed at all points on the track and lets you compare laps against each other. Better than just knowing what your lap time was... imo. i will post some screen shots from my phone once i get taking screen shots working... :/

I have not gone through the process of validating it against the infra red lap timer used by many.. i might this weekend if szy lends me his. but at the last track day the instructors did hand timing for their own records. Their times and my phone times were within 0.1s. I know that isnt saying much as its compared to hand timing but still.. its something.

Also my best lap is on youtube http://youtube.com/watch?v=MRuPQvTjL6w and you can see if you watch the video that the 1'28.2 timed by the phone is reasonably accurate.

I dont have any proof of how accurate it is. But it seems quite accurate.

doesnt seem to say.. but i'd guess 1hz. as in the format section it says it gives the various values once per second...

here is a guy from OZ showing how the racechrono goes against the official timing at wakefield park. He gets pretty good results with just a 1Hz GPS receiver.

thx jing... rofl... i missed tat part for some reason... 00dc2... would u recommend getting the 1hz or 5hz bluetooth??

cos the 2 guys that did a comparison on the link u provided is using 1hz and its close to the "actual" time...

personally i went for 5hz cos its better and the price difference from 1hz is small... it also provides more sampling points for comparing laps.

On the site it says 1hz gives plus minus 0.2 accuracy.. and 5hz gives plus minus under 0.1... so i went with 5hz.

wow that is cheap.. and it says 5Hz... maybe ask the seller to confirm it does 5Hz.. so say 5Hz then have a * saying (optional).. which means its an option at the factory and if you dont get the right one then its just 1Hz...

but that one you found looks ok...

                        yeah... gps is free..
the only possible cost might be if the guy who writes the racachrono software sometime down the line decides to start charging for it.. but i dont see that coming anytime soon.. and i dont see it costing much when it does...
