    Calipers Slipping

    Hey Guys,

Ive had this problem for a while and think i have finally found were the sound and problem is coming from.
I have this awful sound like a harsh squeak coming from my front wheels area. It's on and off but mostly comes while i am braking softly.

I was told it was something to do with the Brakes/Callipers Sliding or Slipping?

It sucks because the mechanic i go to does not hear the noise as i said before its an "on and off" sound sometimes its loud and sometimes its very soft.

I just want to know has anyone come across something like this! Please be my saviour i will even try put up a video on the sound if anyone feels they've had the same problem.

    Please help meeeeeee!
    Thanks

It's not just brake squeal is it? (Which is completely normal and depends on what brake pads you have / their life)

No unfortunately its not just the pads. Also to reassure it wasn't i had them replaced since they needed to be changed soon.
Its more like a harsh croak sound, metal on metal? I also forgot to mention that even when i am slowly down and not on the brakes it also makes the sound, pushing on the brakes sometimes amplifies it. Its very hard to explain i'm going to try video it.

Che, can you confirm that the two bolts holding your brake calipers are not loose? Also it's not your hub dust bracket being bent and rubbing against your rotors? There aren't many things that could emit that noise. Perhaps get the car up on a arm hoist and start the car and move the wheels slowly to reproduce the sound whilst you attempt to brake.

i know exactly what you are talking about man, so like even when ur driving u can hear it am i correct? and it was also on and off, the noise would go away after i wash the car and wheel area but later on would come back and sometimes u slow down to stop u even hear it?
i had this noise when i was driving my accord euro, my mate told me it could be the brake rotors being bent and needs machining =/ or something wrong with the drive shaft.. i wasnt too sure either because before i could get it fixed i got into a car accident with it and totalled the vehicle =/

I cant unfortunately as i next to my mechanic while checking everything and he was telling me what is wrong, i dont know that much so i was merely observing and hoping, though i will check for this afternoon. Though he did check the callipers, undid them and pressed them together and made sure it was all intact. This did fix it with him doing this on Saturday and throughout the weekend i didn't hear a noise at all! Until this morning on my way to work i started hearing it again, feels like it loosened up after a day.

I would love to put on a hoist and move and pull to see if anything is loose but i am no pro and have no clue on what is what and how it is meant to operate :S lol so this is why i ask because the mechanic i am using cant seem to fix the problem and any feedback i hear from here i will tell him directly. Unless someone knows a brakes/suspension specialist who would know the exactly what the problem is if they check the area and heard the noise, i would definitely use them as this mechanic cant seem to figure it out..

Yes you are correct! Mainly when i am stopping i can hear it!

I was told that was the problem the first time and plus my rotors needed to be changed anyway so i replaced them.
              Still the same noise occured.

Also was told it was the Drive shaft or shaft bearing changed that did nothing. :S Wish you didnt crash your car.. lol

Are you guys referring to the rotors being warped? Usually machining them or a new pair would resolve it. When you say drive shaft bearing are you referring to the front wheel bearings?

i reckon going back on norm said it could be a few loose bolts thats make something rubbing onto the rotors or something man. could be the hub or the wheel bearings. ahhhhh yeah i know if i only i didnt crash my car i would of got the problem looked into and help you with what it can be! =="

Yes we are, though i had changed my rotors but still the sound persists. As for the bearing i am not 100% again because this is what i have been told by my mechanic. Im sorry i wish i could explain in more detail and pin point the exact area but obviously still a noob lol.

Managed to Record it luckily as i come and goes, dont mind the vibration noises as its just my engine mounts lol
Note that this is also ROLLING to and only pressing the brake at the end.
                      Its mainly from 0:11 onwards

Apologies, i just really would like this noise solved.

I might add that once i begin braking there is a high pitch ringing sound. If it means my callipers are loose what can resolve this as re tightening them seem to loosen up within a couple of days?

Well we can be pretty sure to narrow it down brakes and tyres as you can hear it intermittently rubbing. Is that a rubber squeal more than a metal to metal noise?

It won't be loose calipers as they would make a knocking noise when you applied the brakes.
