DC5 synchros - possible gearbox upgrade

Today i serviced my car and my mechanic told me that my synchros are stuffing up and my gearbox is on the way out.

But i was thinking i could turn a negative into a positive, is it possible that i could upgrade the gearbox? if so how? and rough prices?

This may sound like a nooby question but i am new to the honda scene so cut me some slack

    Thank You.

You can upgrade your clutch and fly wheel, to something like a exedy sports organic clutch + exedy lightened flywheel (great for daily driving). You can source parts from THmotorsport.com, when i got my stuff the clutch and flywheel cost me just under 700 delivered to my house. This was when our Aussie dollar was strong.
Have a read of my build thread

Maybe a kit such as this, http://bit.ly/13EI8ui
combined with a new clutch and flywheel such as the fore mentioned exedy could be a good solution/upgrade

There are plenty of options for you. Synchrotech carbon lined synchros are great value. I have fitted a few sets of these over the last fews weeks and are well worth it.

Other things you could do are change the final drive, upgrade specific gear ratios and as mentioned, lightened flywheel and clutch.

Also, depending on how many km's are on your car, a bearing set would be a good idea

Wow $1200 is quite cheap. Do you know what would be included with such a rebuild?

              Where are you located?

I do bearings/sychros/labour for around the $1k mark if the box has already been removed. Add another $500ish if i have to remove and refit gbox to car including new oil

Not a bad investment upgrading Synchro's but i don't see any issues in the OEM one's... Even for race purposes aswell..
Any real major benefits you can outline Josh in using these ones in particular mention by yourself

These are the benefits that Synchrotech list for their carbon lined synchro's

                            - Full carbon inner lining
                            - Stronger brass body that has been upgraded to a stronger Japanese brass composition
                            - Improved lock angle that has been changed to aid in higher RPM shifts
                            - More surface contact as the carbon ridges have twice the surface area compared to OEM
                            - The carbon lining has a woven fibre mesh between the carbon & brass body for stronger bond
                            - Upgraded oiling grooves on the braking surface for better lubrication

Also looking at new VS used pictures of OEM VS Synchrotech carbon lined synchro's, they wear rate of the carbon items is obviously alot slower and will last longer. I am unable to speak for long term use yet, as the sets I have fitted so far all have less than 5,000km on them, but I am getting good feedback thus far and when you compare the price of these to OEM synchro's, you are better off purchasing the Synchrotech items

The Synchrotech can handle aggressive shifts better. (faster synchronizing). But the main selling point is the costs in my opinion. If you order a synchrokit at Honda you will not only get the ring, but also the spring, hub and sleeve (In The Netherlands though) which in 75% of all the cases are still in good condition so you could get away with only replacing the synchrorings.

For example the K20 1&2 synchro kit which is 1055 AUD without GST... See part number 8 in the picture.
