ermm.. yeah. chuck some sound deadening on the car, amps, etc. maybe 50kg's worth. yeah, about how much mr.honda REMOVED when designing the type-R. but, you will have improved sound quality.. (!?)
as far as i'm concerned, if i want to listen to music, and i mean REALLY LISTEN, i do it in the comfort of my own home (and dont get me wrong, i like music a lot,im in a band, etc..) i do not see a high quality audio as necessary in a car such as the ITR which, even standard, has so much road noise, creaks, groans and bumps inside the car. if listening to music in the car was important to me, the ITR would be just about the worst choice of car i'd be guessing.yes, i'd get a lexus or something..

..but then again i am really NOT into car audio.

if i replace the stock unit with a newer one the weight difference will be practically zero and if i decide to get a small amp for the front speakers it will weigh 3.1kg (already checked).. and maybe another kg for cables.

then i can actually save weight by removing the rear speakers which are shite and unecessary and the cabling associated with them... so there.. you drama queen

EDIT: and dynamat sound deadening is foam that weigh's practically nothing.. its just a thin layer of sticky foam that stops air bouncing and flowing through gaps

Well when you come accross a good quality SQ headunit with all the features you want post it up.

That door kit pictured it not foam.

To me, it is a matter of having acceptable audio without overkill.

The car (particularly the ITR) is a pathetic place for quality audio, so I simply installed some Boston 2-way front speakers and left it at that. (My car was dealer fitted with the optional CD-changer and upgraded head unit.)

If I want to listen to decent quality audio I park my ass in my lounge and turn on my Hi-Fi system... or put on my Sennheiser HD-250 headphones. Car systems just aren't in the same league. Actually hmmm... that gives me an idea... headphones in the car?

I agree!! My car in particular had so many rattles, vibration and such that I just thought "screw audio"...I just got a JVC MP3 headunit and some JL audio speakers...not the best but better than stock

i agree with freaky.. i dont want audiophile quality as the car is not the place for that esp the dc2r. for that i have my HD600's.. but i get annoyed in the car when a good song comes on the radio, i try to krank it up a bit to enjoy it and it sounds ABSOLUTELY SHITE... so something must be done.

$500 speakers now and a good HU when one with good SQ and most (probably just some) of the features i want comes out and i suspect i'll be happy.

an amp might get done if the above is still not good enough???

              http://www.dynamat.com/technical_spe..._original.html
says here the original dynamat is plastic/rubber material.. sorta like foam i guess.. and its 3.2kg per square meter. so am guessing adds about 4kg in total to do both the doors... not a large price to pay esp if i remove the rear speakers and cabling and probably stacker too as its too hard to get a new HU to interface with it no?

                  OK... here's my 2 cents.

If I were to get a headunit... I'd definately go for Clarion or ecylipse(can't spell it LOL). The Clarion has f**k all features, only ones you will use. They have awsome sound quality. Pioneer decks are okish... I personally hate them, and way to many functions. I have tried out Alpine speakers Type R/and Type S, also Clarion speakers, and a few amps... which I found to be extremely crap. I have listened to all the "good" speakers, which sound like the most basey speakers ever!

                  IMO... too much bass=GAY!

I came accross AVI components... AVI is a company in Canada, that produce these by hand. Although extremely pricey, they are amazing. Even though I have spent close to 6 grand on my sound system.... I feel it was well worth it. I don't have sound deadening or ne thing like that... and it sounds awsome. The only place I know that sells AVI stuff is Metro Sound in Artarmon. They offer life time warrenty on their work, and do the cleanest installs ever. Their normal customers are ferrari's, bentleys, mercs, BMW's... and all sorts of top notch cars. Worth while checking them out.

Weight wise... I weighed standard audio gear and not including the amps... the headunit and speakers were considerable lighter than the stock ones in the DC2R. Both my amps are aluminium, and weight pretty much nothing. And sub comes out for spirted driving! hehehe.

My point of my rammble is... you'll never get good sound out of entry level products. Do your own research... as different brands are better for different music. You probs have a budget of so much etc.

                    Didn't you have a naka?

Back on topic... it's ultimately your decision to put in a system.
Anything 1/2 decent will be better than stock.

                      Boomy bass = gay....

however deep, clean, extended bass you cannot have too much of. My home system has a -3db rolloff (measured) of approx 17hz. There is a big difference between too much bass and boomy muddy bass.

veryyyy true. I dunno... I don't like too much base. I have a sub... but it's always on the lowest setting.. just to fill in bits and pieces.

You've hit the nail on the head...

Subwoofers are there to fill in the flat spot in the low-frequency response... NOT to create a huge peak in the low frequency response.

For SQ headunits- i would look at Eclipse, If you don't like the looks, the second best would be Alpine, then Clarion, then the rest- such as pioneer, sony, kenwood, etc.
(you do have you audiophile, denon, nakamachi, etc, but then you don't want that)

What I would do, is audition some splits, go to FHRXstudios, and they'll guide you the way to some quality gear.

From there, I would look at getting a headunit, what I look for in a headunit is:

Features that you need: such as mp3? ipod connection? usb connection? bluetooth?
Also looks/design, ergonomics ( the way it feels etc; not plasticy, solid build), LCD or dot matrix, colours (integration with your dash)

SQ wouldnt be a major major consideration when looking into a headunit, since there are many other things can improve SQ.
Most headunits are capable of good/decent SQ.
