Picking a sound system..

How should I go about picking the perfect speakers setup? (no subwoofer just yet) maybe the best bang for buck front/rear speakers? Going in a DC5.

Or should I just go to an Autobarn or grab the best Alpine or Pioneer package on special? :P

Oh I already started there Did a fair bit of research not long after I got my car and picked what seemed to be the perfect head unit at the time and now was thinking of upgrading the front/rear speakers.

Couple of other things my music always changes from electro to rock so I'd love for something to sound excellent with both, sub situation is already taken care of so I'm thinking of seeing whats best on offer at Autobarn (eg; 2 front, 2 back, do I need tweeters?) and letting them install it for I think $70. I'm really not good with that stuff unfortunately.

I used to be all in for Alpine, than i found Focal which destroys alpine in terms of overall sound and quality. Not sure how it would sound running of a head unit, but alpine is bang for buck i ran them off a head unit before that was fine. Also its not that hard to install speakers to save money but if you got the cash why not lol.

Also in my DC5 i ran splits in the back and normal components in the front or you could go splits all round would pump.

I'm really new to the audio tech talk guys so forgive me for trying to keep up I remember speaking to someone at Autobarn and basically said "I want an entire Pioneer setup" thinking because my head unit was Pioneer, matching it with Pioneer speakers however the customer service rep said thats not the case at all, he's personally found that a mixed setup (assorted brands from head unit, subwoofer, speakers and head units) can be much better than sticking with a single brand so any insight on this?

They have the speakers on display at Autobarn but its hard to know what the best quality of sound is going to be and thats what I want, an awesome sound system that'll keep me smiling when driving. (By awesome I don't mean my boot will be a subwoofer).

And should I give thoughts to tweaters in the car as well? EDIT: And what is meant by splits? Thanks

Hey bud,

This is my recommendation for a budget yet awesome setup. Forget rear speakers, forget subwoofer. Get some quality front components like a rockford fosgate or focals and a 2 ch amp capable of powering them, then dynamat the front doors. Good speakers provide adequate but ont overpowering bass imo

You'll notice many cars in comps run only front speakers

I see where your coming from but there's also a part of me that wants to customize the car a but more in the interior. I will admit though that I need MUCH better front speakers and possibly even tweeters(?). I am getting this for my subwoofer: http://www.ryda.com.au/Pioneer-TS-WX...p/tswx610a.htm

Saw it in action and really loved it because it's hidden and I use my boot space for work. What would be the downside to just simply going in and listening to Autobarn help me pick out ideal front and rear speakers? I'd rather have it all done there as its local.

Components/splits ARE speakers + tweeters

You can do what I suggested and have a monoblock amp powering a subwoofer in the spare wheel well. Autobarn speakers are mounted on their wall, it's gonna sound different to when it's sitting in your door. Like I said, dynamat the doors, will sound 100x better

And dude... (most) autobarn is a joke at installing. They do the dodgiest shit and charge an arm and a leg. If you insist on getting it done 'professionally', go to a proper car audio shop

Problem with that is where I've been recommended I'm probably going to have to wait an entire day to have the car finished. Anyone able to recommend anywhere?

How would I organize dynamat installation as well as things like possibly not having the car rattle with the music etc Thanks for the reply!

You want a proper install youre gonna have to wait. Autobarn is quick for a reason

You can supply dynamat and have the shop install for you to save coin

First mod I did in my DC2: Pulled out the 2x 10 inch subs, the amp and the rear 6x9 speakers. I am running a headunit and 2x 6.5 inch speakers. Why would I need more sound system with engine noise like that?

Right now I have stock exhaust with plans to buy a CAI soon but thats about it - still want my music to be played well inside the car

Why wouldn't a simple Pioneer front and rear speaker set with maybe 2 tweeters be enough? It isn't to show off it's just for my satisfaction.
