    DC2 Ignition upgrade *bling*

since i need to change my distributor (AKA 'dizzy') cap and rotor - i looked at getting an MSD unit as opposed to an aftermarket chinese verson (or the OEM Honda one for that matter)

as the prices of MSD cap and rotor in Australia were silly, i resoned tghat for only a few bucks more i coudl get the external coil too...

my coil has 180'000km on it and coudl stop working anytime soon...

at this point of the plan, i decided that the plug leads could also be a bit dodgy, so why not get MSD ones?

they were only another $105 on top of the $130 for the cap, rotor, coil and bracket...

    so i got:

MSD cap and rotor - 82933 (suit ITR & VTiR)
MSD coil - 8202 (external generic)
MSD coil bracket - 8213 (generic)
MSD 8.5mm plug wires - 32343 (black) (suit ITR & VTiR)

here is my crappy camera pic:

i will install and take better pics on the weekend...

    and for info:

Honda OEM Distributor cap = $57.09
Honda OEM Rotor button = $47.37

    i.e $104.50

so you can see why i went with MSD direct from the USA...

Nice one tink! Dont mean to jinx you, but I had a bad experience with the MSD. Hope you get good results though!

i ran MSD ignition components on my 1983 B20VTEC Prelude as well as my 1990 B20VTEC Integra, so feel comfortable with it as a hardy brand...

the parts i am fitting IMO are 'dumb' parts, and not like a microprocessor controled ignition component (which i am assuming is what you had your problems with?)

Hey Tink, where did you order the parts from?

I've got to install an external coil and modifying the oem cap has become difficult as I can't find an ignition post anywhere. The closest I've gotten is the MSD Power Tower but they're sold in packs of 9 for AU$73 so replacing the entire cap and getting a new rotor (which I probably need) for a similar price is the next best option.

nice gear....would be interesting if you net any power gains from it.

i highly doubt any power will be gained, but will do a B2B test with the old plug wires just for fun
