    Engine mount, is it cracked

    Hi all,

I was driving my DC5R the other day and I noticed when I go over bumps on the road there is knocking sound coming from the driver front end. Intially I thought it may be my suspension but after visual check that can't be the problem. No leaks from the shocks or anything unusual.
However I did find this in the engine bay on the driver's side, next to the power steering fluid.

I am not sure if its cracked/damage. But when you have a closer look the rubber sealant around the metal are splited.

    Any insight?

its cracked... i just replaced mine for the same thing. the brown stuff around it (and possible on the bonnet above it) is from the goo stuff inside the mount.

for a genuine honda item your looking at $260 just for the mount.... if you have a friend/you that has the tools... it'll take about 10 min to install... just put a jack on the subframe.

if you wanna mod the car, you should be able to find a mugan engine mount kit for around 500-600$ which well replace the two side mounts and the front or rear one.

    hope this helps

I wouldn't go for a oem replacement. The stock mounts for the dc5 are known to be weak so its likely that it will happen again. Mugens replace 2 sides and the front mount.

either mugen or innovative engine mounts.. both i think you can get from jdm yard (trader from ozhonda.com). ive got the mugen one and to me it just looks like oem mounts but with different material inside. its definately stiffer then oem. so you may get more satisfaction buying innovative which is cheaper..

How mounts are there? I am sure there is at least two but I cant seem to find the second one.

I was thinking if one is only cracked (driver's side) I would just replace that one to save some money.

Just to confirm, what are the signs while driving that you know that the engine mount needs to be replaced?

              thanks

driving on damaged engine mounts isnt' really too much trouble or problem...
it's just that you don't really want to do that becuase it puts more stress on the other engine mounts so when they also break, then you've got more to fix.

but just fixing one engine mount with aftermarket mounts isn't a good idea either, because the new aftermarket mount will be stiffer and this too will put stress on the other original mounts.

if you want to save some money, just replace it with an oem mount.
this may be fine, if you don't plan on tracking or do more aggressive driving later on. But oem mount is $260 and it may break again. (well sooner than Innovative and Mugen anyway).

personally i would just buy the Mugen or Innovative mounts for around $600 and have them all installed at the one time. Saves labour cost too.

From experience, i wished i could have bought aftermarket ones for my car in the first place.

innovative come in a set of 3 or 4....the 2nd one on the front is located under the airbox....and the 3rd come with it is the bottom rear....the bottom front is optional....I got a set.....I like it....but see wether you like the vibration or not.....coz its a solid plastic....not like the oem and mugen type...with rubber insert.....if you like track....innovative is for you....if its only for street use....I recommond you go mugen....but its up to you....coz mugen cost you more neway....

Went to Hanny's today and confirmed that my engine mount is cracked.

I see there isn't much choice around, it looks like either mugen or innovative. I won't go OEM way as it already has failed on me once.

Can someone tell me exactly what I need, from the vendor's section innovative engine mounts comes with 3 pieces. Is this all I need?
How bad is the vibration? Is it a big job ?

                          regards

not a big job....take my mate about 2 hrs to get them done....you only need 3 anyway....and the 4th one is optional....3 is good enough for you.....the vibration is noticeable at the beginning....but give it a week or 2 to <Sit in> it will be better.....not realy noticeable at all now...and no more wheel hopping at any situation.....
