    Brake Rotors

    I'm currently in the market for some brake rotors. I have a brand new set of QFM A1RM brake pads sitting in my room waiting to be installed for the upcoming H Nationals.

    I was just curious as to what all your experiences are with different brake rotors from different brands.

    So far I have been given prices for the RDA and DBA 4000 Series front rotors (Vented, no slots or drills) which are $43.20 and $148.5 respectively. Is the extra $100+ justifiable for the DBA rotors? Or should i be looking at other brands all together?

    Thanks for your input!

    Edit: It's for daily and for occasional track use. I have 4x100 PCD so it's not always easy to find rotors in my size. Big brake upgrades are not an option as i have 15" wheels.

    I was told that RDA are more prone to cracking but then again that's a huge jump in price!

      i have been running re-drilled Type R DBA's on my VTiR and they are great, treat them right and they will pay it back!

        I've heard similar. I wonder if they will crack 3 times as frequently though :/

          if you cant justify the extra expense, you probably shouldn't be tracking your car...

          RDA = cheap and nasty

          DBA = proven quality

            there's been many huge discussions with comparisions between RDA and DBA, however i've been using both and to be honest, i see minimal difference between the two. I have noticed that the DBA's have a slightly better tolerance to heat on the track but as long as you back off once you reach the limits, i have no problems with the RDA.

            Many people will say otherwise and claim that DBA is definately better, but having used both for awhile now i'm quite happy with the RDA's. Never cracked, never warped, never had a problem as long as you use them right. However that's just my opinion. And i'm sure people will say otherwise.

            If you're really that concerned about reading reviews about the RDA, just get the DBA Rotors.

                I can justify the extra expense and have done so in the past. I was just wondering if the extra money was actually paying for a significant improvement.

                Considering your knowledge on the topic, do you know if i should bother with the 4000 T3 DBA or should i just get the 4000 blank disc?

                Thanks again for everyone's input.

                  Re: Brake Rotors

                  The T3's looks pretty?

                  I know people who use the flat face rotors with no issues. The idea is that the slots should help to disperse heat, I've been using DBA 4000 slotted since and no dramas.

                  This does mean it's time to try something new next time though.

                    Re: Brake Rotors

                    I don't think slots help disperse heat, thats what the heat vanes do inside. The slots instead help cut a clean surface on the pad every time it rotates past for better contact between pad and rotor.
                    Correct me if I'm wrong!

                      This is the understanding i also have. The slots are to clean the disc/pad of used pad material, and to apparently clear out 'gasses' that the pad releases. As far as i'm aware, pads don't really releases these 'gasses' any more so the slots are more of an aesthetic thing.

                        Need to know more about what you intend to get out of it? Are you going to chase times? or just have fun?

                        Or try to beat people and win trophies?

                        but simply going by your pad decision, i think you should be aiming above RDAs...

                          Awesome! I will be investing in some DBA 4000 blank discs. I always had my doubts regarding RDA quality. I would much rather not risk it and just purchase something i know is good and works well.
                          Thanks again for the help guys, tinkerbell in particular.
