Hey guys, been having a few issues with the teg, and i can't figure it out whats causing it.
Basically it all started at wakefield. Went down with some friends for the day and when i went on for our session, everything was fine for 2 laps, then the lap after that the car started studdering. VTEC would cut in and out at high RPM, and then not kick in at all. So i brought it back in and tried to find what was going on. Oil was a little low i thought that was the culprit. So i topped it back up and went out for the second session. Same thing happens. I then went out on the 3rd session, paying more attention to my gauges. I noticed that when oil temps were at 80 deg, everything was sweet. At 90 deg, vtec would struggle and at 100deg, vtec will not engage.
So far i've brought the car home and done the following.
Changed engine oil (OEM 10-30)
Cleaned VTEC solenoid with degreaser
Tested the solenoid by putting a 12v power through the plug, actuator clicks upon power (so i assume its working)
Reset ECU
Changed battery (had a weak crank due to dead battery but i thought i'd note it here)
Replaced Spark Plugs
Details of the car.
99 Type R
282,000kms (yes she's quite old)
Simota CAI
Xforce 4-1 headers
Mugen Twinloop Catback
Earls 13row Oil Cooler
Relocated Oil filter
Oil temp/ Oil Pressure / Water Temp gauges
Does burn a little oil, have to top up about 500ml oil every 3 weeks or so.
Suspension mods and stuff but I don't think its relevant.
I'm going to check for codes tonight from the ECU as suggested from a friend, but if anyone could point me in the right direction into what to check next would be really appreciated
