My original plan was stock suspension and Eibach Pro Kit springs - but if I need new front shocks and get them from OEM, its $1k for just the front shocks unfortunately. I don't think I'll ever adjust the coilovers which is why I didn't want to consider them previously.

The eibachs are matched well with the stock dampers. You can probably get some low kms stock shocks off the forums or wreckers for about $200 for all 4. It will save you heaps. Just make sure they are not out of shape and they arnt leaking

How do I tell? I got it serviced with NRMA who said the front was leaking pretty bad but I haven't SEEN evidence of it, the new shop I'm going to to suggests I bring it in so they can make sure they are actually leaking and they're not just trying to get $$ out of me.

Other than that are there any other decent bang for buck shocks? I think the cheapest I've seen Eibach spring's were $485 unfitted.

Found these for Type R, unsure if they'd fit on a base model but again not sure what condition they'd be in besides 'looking clean' - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/JDM-HONDA...item1e6efc9759

Check the for sale section here and ozhonda, you might be able to find some local to you then you can inspect it.

Basically if you see any oil anywhere on the shock, it's probably has a leak. Check to see if they arnt bent either from a smash.

What about Pedders shocks? I think they were $390 installed (front only) - plus Eibach spring kit, I'm sure it beats OEM shocks with leaks if they're that bad. I'm taking it in tomorrow to get inspected, fingers crossed they come back and tell me the shocks actually don't need replacing

i have silvers neo max purchased from shift performance in lansvale $1,400 before these coilovers i had factory compressed springs which were actually more stiff then my coilovers on the soft setting! so far (have done minimal driving with them) I'm happy as larry. full hieght adjustable, you will not even be able to go as low as the lowest setting camber tops at the front adjustable firmness good price!! they claim to be a all round performer on both street and track tho i have only used the on the street so far they havnt disappointed me yet.

After more research it seems that its pointless for me to buy coilovers, I'll never use the features such as height adjustment etc and yet I'll be paying for it. So I have 3 options:

                  1. Take it in, if they say my shocks are fine, great, I'll lower it 30mm with springs.
                  2. Replace the front shocks with Pedders and add the Eibach or Kings 30mm lowered springs.
                  3. Buy the replacement Koni shocks (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Koni-Yell...item2ebf03bca2) and add Eibachs or Kings 30mm lowered springs.

Sounds like you're on the right track. Have you considered just replacing the shocks with the Konis? Or did you really want the slight lowering.

my guy has quoted $595 for the Koni Yellow shocks and $240 for the Eiback Pro Kit springs + $250 postage, so US$1085 landed... (depending on AUD rate, it would be below the US$ price)

Don't use King Spring, Worst springs ever. They have come on 2 cars i have bought and both times the ride quality was terrible.

Eibach or Swift springs are the way to go if you are only changing the springs.

+1 for Eibach springs, their ride comfort is great and they give a decent height to the car. Member nathan (wongy) has them in his dc5r, have experienced the ride and i can say its better than stock dc5r
Have a read of my build thread

After considering the prices I'm thinking of going with coilovers guys, had a long talk with my mechanic and was convinced price and convenience wise coilovers are the way to go plus if I'm ever defected I can adjust it. Narrowed it down to these so far:

                                Tein Street Basis $970 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tein-Street-...6915fe&vxp=mtr

                                Silvers Neomaxx Coilovers $1300 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HONDA-DC5...item43b03baaca

                                Yellowspeed DC5 Coilovers $1050

                                Any thoughts/suggestions?
