Exedy stage II
Exedy lightened flywheel 3.7kg or 3.8kg
5.1 FD
TSX 6th
Current Mods include Injen CAI, Toda Header, Amuse catback.
First impression.. WOW! The extra accelration is great! From 2k onwards it just picks up, i reckon it accelrates faster then my car with kpro. The shifting is the same, but so much quicker in accelration. The exedy clutch felt great and i was a bit skeptical to the 3.7/3.8kg flywheel too but it felt very easy to drive. I even had a pair of nike runners on which have rather thick soles, compared to the majority of other shoes i wear, i thought i would have struggled driving his car...even when i drove stevans car with the jdmflywheel at 4.7 kg, first impressions with that is it felt quite light. It was harder for me to adjust driving his car then my friends.
I will remain with a stock k20 for a long time and im now confident that the shorter fd and lighter then stock flywheel will bring me much more accelration! - without going over the top
Since my car is tuned, not sure if i should keep the jdm flywheel or opt for the exedy lightweight?
I want to drive his car again and pay more attention to certain rpm at particular speeds and compare it to my car.
Is there a source to back this up? Shak's car has the 6th gear from a tsx and there was no mention of 5th being changed. One of my mates is currently performing the swap and no hiccups have arisen also.
Also, I find it really silly to think why people go thru the effort of changing the 5th gear jsut to get better gas mileage..... Thats why you change 6th gear lol....
nothing stopping you using 5.1 with a k24 but i'd say with the extra torque launching/taking off, first gear would become a bit of an issue, or a bit useless
I will be running a FD5.08 and TSX 6th gear soon on my K24.
So I shall report back on how much of a mistake this was.
My expectations is that I will have made my 1st gear and 2nd gear redundant.
But I never plan on launching the car anyway.
FYI, the Final Drive was ~$600, TSX 6th gear was ~$250 and labour was ~250.
(note I had removed the gearbox from the car, to save on labour costs)

It's silly to change ratios just for better highway fuel economy, lower RPM does not guarantee less fuel consumption.

regardless the k20 sets at 3300rpm @ 110km/h, couple that with the 5.1FD it will be higher which is why I opted for the tsx 6th to bring the revs back down to a lower rpm.

k20 head? yeah I never would drema of runnig the 5.1FD on the k24 lol, I would imagine 1st would be useless but keen to hear your thoughts on 2nd gear..

Yep and driver comfort is a good reason to do it, I just didn't want anyone assuming that lower revs = less fuel consumption on the highway .
