AUDM Type R vs AUDM Type S

    Hey
Been trying to figure out what the difference is between the AUDM Type R and AUDM Type S (keep finding JDM type R specs)

This is what ive found so far

    Type R (2001-2004)
    Engine K20A2
    147kW @ 7400rpm
    Torque 192Nm @ 6000-6000rpm
    Kerb Weight (kg) 1160

    Type S (2004-2006)
    Engine K20Z1
    154kW @ 7400rpm
    Torque 194Nm @ 7000-7000rpm
    Kerb Weight (kg) 1230

What is the difference between the A2 and Z1?
Chassis wise are there any differences, obviously there is becasue the type R weighs a little lighter.
Do they both have an LSD gearbox?
Which is meant to be quicker seeing as usually type R is meant to? and looking at the specs it doesnt seem to be.
Why did they stop the type R in 04 and change to type S?

    Thanks in advance

I hope you searched before you posted this thread, there is a bit of info on this topic around you would just have to sift through a few posts. It isn't all in one convenient post.

Your quoted specs seem accurate. The quoted mass of the Type R is sans air conditioning though, with AC a Type R weighs about 1180kg. To answer your questions, in order:
    • Z1 has a different intake camshaft and a different ECU setting
    • The front strut brace is different, and the rear chassis brace is probably steel on the Type S compared to aluminium on the Type R (It is on US cars, I have never looked under the rear seats of a Type S to check.) Apart from this they are much the same. Much of the rest of the mass increase comes from the interior appointments, wheels and other bits and pieces.
    • The Type S does not have an LSD.
    • Motor tested the two back to back, the Type R was slightly quicker over both a quarter mile and a lap of Winton. There was little difference though.
    • The same reason car manufacturers do everything, to sell cars and make money .

      Awesome info, ChargeR thanks!

so would i be right in saying that the Type S has a more aggressive camshaft which is why it has more power? or other way around, type r has a better performance camshaft?

Also ive heard that the type R has forged internals from factory? would that be the same for the type S

Would you have the stats from the motor magazine? would be interesting to see what the differences are.

        *When you say rear brace?
*Behind bumper, Type S does not have, Type R has.
        *Under seat, Type S has steel 3.6kg & Type R aluminium 2.6kg

Didn't the Type S have 2 different motors over its live span, the K20A3 between 04 and 05 and then the Z1 came out? Also I believe the Type R and Type S have two different roles, one's more track oriented with the LSD etc. where the other is more user/road friendly with the leather seats.

No all the Australian Integra Type S were fitted with the K20Z1. The K20A3 was fitted to the base/luxury models.
