The Mugen N1 H.O.A ECU is tuned for a Japanese Spec motor which has different internals and compression than a AUDM engine. The ECU tuning should be different between JDM & AUDM spec vehicles but most Mugen N1 H.O.A ecu is a one size fit all fixed ECU map which cannot be altered by the end user. The suitability on the usage of the ECU is very highly dependent on your vehicle modifications.
Having said what we have said we have "discussed" the differences between k20a/k20a2. Yes it is possible that its speculations but honda part numbers seem pretty much best way to compare unless u are willing to take apart each engine and compare parts seperately.l

So we can say that the k20a makes more power due to

    1. Pistons
    2. Jdm intake manifold
    3. Jdm header
    4. Jdm exhaust
    5. ECU

So now looking at the average owner which would usually change header/exhaust the only thing different in their setup compared to a jdm k20a would be only the piston and the pulley?

That sounds like acceptable differences if the owner does not want to go out and search for a reliable/trustworthy tuner which is often alot harder then it sounds depending on which area you are in of course

optimum setup for the mugen ecu would be the mugen n1 exhaust, jdm 4-2 header and thats it as thats what the cars in the integra cups run and ultimately what mugen would have tuned it for

Camshafts are one of them as well.

        Hondata have stated - http://www.hondata.com/techk20itrcamsink20a2.html

"These cams (JDM ITR DC5) run the same lift but more duration than the stock RSX type S camshafts. Hence the stock RSX valve springs can be used."

Why? There are so many base maps freely available which are very close to optimum tunes for most combinations of mods. and then it is quite simple to fine tune the car with use of the software and a laptop.
