    Oil Changing

Hey guys, I was just curious as to how far you travel between services/oil changes?

I've heard people change they're oil as soon as 1,500kms and as long as 15,000kms

If possible, list such things as; if track days influence the frequency, what oils you use, positives and negatives of oil, etc.

This includes both engine and transmission oil.

Currently I use Motul turbolight 4100 10w-40, change every ~5,000kms. Unsure as to what tranny oil im currently using as the mechanic used their stuff when they replaced my clutch.

Here is a little template and an example

    PHP Code:
    [B]Engine Oil: [/B]
    [
    B]Freq:[/B
    [
    B]Transmission Oil:[/B
    [
    B]Freq:[/B
    [
    B]Notes:[/B

Engine Oil: Motul Turbolight 4100 10w-40
    Freq: 5,000kms
    Transmission Oil: Unsure
    Freq: Not yet completed.
Notes: Track days would reduce my kms by/ I [do/dont]recommend this oil/ etc etc

    Engine Oil: Endless R-504 5w-40
    Freq: 10,000 kms
    Transmission Oil: Valvoline Duragear 75w-80
    Freq: Just recently been changed
Notes: K20A2. The engine oil I use is for race purpose, can use for daily but very expensive, good since it can withstand high temp and last a while. Transmission oil is more stronger than OEM oils which allows the LSD to kick much harder. Using any heavier oil than that will allow the LSD to work at full potential, ie. Endless Gearbox Oil use for race.

You might also like to have a read of this thread: LINK. Also it is probably worthwhile if people add what car/engine and use to their posts.

Engine Oil: Red Line 10W-30 or 10W-40
Freq: 5000km or every two track days whichever comes first
      Transmission Oil: Honda MTF
      Freq: Every track day
Notes: K20A2. Basic bolt on modifications, no aftermarket oil coolers, a decent amount of track use.

This post is most likely directed mainly for Tom but would love other peoples opinions also. Tom reading your thread, re gearbox fluid, you've used at least a couple being redline/oem mtf. You've chosen oem. Whats the reason behind this? I have only ever used oem myself and change the fluid after every two trackdays. Lately i noticed after my track day, the shifting already feels not smooth like butter anymore. Was

Engine Oil: Nulon Fully Synthetic 10W 40
          Freq: 5000kms
          Transmission Oil: OEM Honda MTF
          Freq: 10000kms
Notes: Looking out for a better MTF. The oem 1 feels notchy compared to a mates oil (possibly redline not sure) which felt nice and smooth and somewhat stronger in the hand.

                  Engine Oil: Castrol Edge 10w40
Freq: 5000km or 3 months or every track day
                  Transmission Oil: OEM
Freq: 5000km or 3 months or every track day
Notes: B18CR with 155000km. I've tried several Motul gear box oils but they were all very notchy and have a heavy shift feeling. OEM feels way better and is cheaper.

                    Engine Oil: 10w40
Freq: every 5K or after 2 track days
                    Transmission Oil: OEM MTF
Freq: after every 2 track days
Notes: K20Z1, I/H/E. Considering trying another gearbox oil as I seem to notice the OEM starts to get a lil notchy right after a track day.

                      Engine Oil: 5w40, Motul 8100 x-cess
Freq: every 5K or every track day.
                      Transmission Oil: OEM MTF
Freq: after every 2 track days
Notes: JDM K20A, i/h/e kpro. When i bought the car it used to have castrol syntrax in the gearbox. I have replaced gearbox oil twice with OEM MTF and shifting feels much more smoother.

Engine Oil: Royal Purple 10-40W or 10-30W (buy in bulk what ever they have available)
Freq: when the car was daily driven it was every 10,000kms Now its every 5,000Kms or 2 track days
Transmission Oil: Redline (not sure of weight) Change to redline after gearbox rebuild in 2010.
Freq: Every 25,000kms when daily. Going to change to different brand/less expensive and change every 5,000kms or 2 track days
Notes: Use to use Motul 10-40w. Noticed i was burning some oil. Changed to Royal purple in 2010 and never had any issues. I buy in bulk from the distributor to save the $$$ as there is a BIG mark up on it in store.

Notes: Engine has done 250,000 and still running strong, however i still feel that OEM oil feels the best compared to many others i've tried.

Notes: Nylon oil is great, I've used Royal Purple and I'd say nylon would be better. Honda gearbox oil is great too, I've used Penrite which I really don't like..
