    Second gear grind

Anyone ever have problems with their car popping out of 2nd gear during HARD braking? I find my car keeps popping out of 2nd gear when I'm diving into the corners braking hard

It doesn't really ever do it on the street and on the road course I don't really use 2nd gear so I don't have any problems. The car upshifts and downshifts fine into 2nd gear and under normal driving and very spirited driving it never really pops out

anyway my car is honda interga dc5r

        Worn synro/ring.

Check the engine mount condition/ shifter bushing first. But once it starts popping out you'll end up with a gearbox rebuild.

What does the gear box rebuild involve? Are the worn synchro's replaced or is everything changed?

Pull box apart. Check and inspect of all gears, bearings and synchros.

If its synchro's, you'll need to replace the entire hubs, selectors and synchros (honda sells complete kits)

im pretty sure its a common problem with the dc5 gear boxs but not to the extent of it poping out when ur breaking mine comes out of 2nd quicker then any gear going up the gears and can somtimes not want to go into 2nd but havnt herd excatly what your saying before, but like somone said above sounds like a synchro

So if someone buys carbon line synchros, they need to replace all mentioned parts as well?

If the selectors and hubs are in good condition, then all you need to do is change synchro's

Benson, quick question. For a roughly 80k's gearbox would you usually suspect bearing and hub damage? Or would you more likely see synchro wear and tear at the early stages of a gearbox. Reason asking is because im about to change my synchros to carbon synchros and was wondering would it be safer to also buy new bearings? Keeping in mind the gearbox has lived mainly on the streets and has been serviced quite well with its oil changes and only seen the track a couple of times and even then it was only early stages of its suspension tuning than actual personal bests. Gearbox has no issues like popping, just sometimes slightly resistant to downshift.

When the box is stripped down, whoever is rebuilding it should inspect all gears/hub/hub selectors for abnormal wear. Just inspect the Input shaft bearing as they generally fail first, but if you maintain fresh oil and correct oil levels then bearing's shouldnt fail prematurely.

I wouldn't bother replacing to just carbon synro for the sake of it, cost of labour will out weigh any benefits IMO.

Oh ok. Would it cost me a lot more even though I'll have it open to change my final drive?...excuse me if I sound like abit new to this. Mechanic stuff isn't my line of expertise.
