Does anyone with a DC5R have this knob on their car?

Bought it from JDMyard yesterday because I'm a sucker for these things (still trying to track down a Spoon Titanium one though
) and when I went to fit it today I find the shift boot sits too high for it to even thread on a little bit. Once I removed the shift boot, the bits of metal on the stick that hold up the boot stop the knob from screwing in the whole way.
I'm thinking I could just shave away the metal parts and let the shift boot fall down a bit USDM style, but that can't really be undone if I want to change it in the future. Just seeing if anyone even has this on their car and if so what they did.
