comments on AU vs JDM ITR from another site?

i was on another forum and someone posted this:

"the only thing the aus DC2R has in common with the JDM engine is the red rocker cover....... aus spec DC2R use JDM VTiR engines. if you think an aus spec integra goes well, drive a JDM one, WOW, "
it seems the person is saying that the AU ITR is not the same as the JDM ITR?

Is this true, what other differences are there?

This comment got me thinking, googled it couldn't find any thing on this.. Thanks guy's

well, that comment is basically wrong - there are many things in common,

but also a few major differences, such as the exhaust manifold and ECU for starters...

96 spec was 4 lug rims the 98 spec had 16 inch 5 Lug rims. Obviously the front end of the car which some prefer over the AU model.

What forum did you get that from? I have driven plenty of VTiR tegs and the type R is definitely faster stock for stock.

this will answer all your questions and put whoever made that ridiculous comment in their f*cking place:

          http://www.itrsport.com/technical.html

The only reason a JDM integra may seem faster is that Honda allowed a more aggressive tune for the JDM model on the basis of a 100RON octane rating at the pump available in Japan, compared to our 98.

The same story exists for most of the iterations of WRX STI models imported locally over the years, where they have met detunes for hot temps and low octane ratings in Australia, i.e my99 - my05 wrx sti AUDM 195kw vs JDM 206kw

Most difference between AUDM and JDM type r i think is the exhaust manifold and as stated, the ECU tune, and in the end the difference is only a 6kw gain for the JDM version at the fly

Obviously, just some extra information for the original poster.

pretty sure that person is WRONG.

The DC2 was very similar acrosss all markets. The USDM was the suckiest of them all with no Recaros, extra 60KG of flab, 15" CTR wheels, JDM 96 spec ratios. The AU/EU/UK ones are much better. They are very similar to the JDM models and have the 98+ ratios. The main difference is of course the JDM front, extra torque of the 98 spec JDM headers available from 6200rpm vs 7000 and of course the 16" JDM wheels.

What they did get that we didn't which is pretty cool. They got a boot release switch so you could open up the boot without the key or having to pull the lever inside the interior.
