iPod car dock thingy?

hey guys - want to connect the iPod to the car stereo and have control functions too...

if your after descent sound, fm modulators are not the way to go. a lot of the sound frequency band is lost during the transmission and you wil get a "flatter" sound from the best branded modulators, eg belkin etc. this compounds the ipod "altering" the musics original equalisers to get better sound from headphones giving a muddy bassline and flat highs.

if id reccomend anything to you it would be to get an ipod compatible headunit with data control cable. these decks are getting cheaper all the time and even pioneer are releasing their units with this feature. first and foremost id say get a middle range alpine headunit that come with the ipod cable as standard, they allow you to control the ipod playlists from the deck with the ipod neatly stored away whilst getting charged!

its all down to budget, im a sound enthusiast so i went with an alpine cda-9887 and alpine media control pocket and it works a treat, looks good too lol. anyways thats my 2c......

My younger brother has one of those transmitter things that you plug into the bottom of your ipod, and it sounds crap... might as well just use a CD.

I recently got this headunit. Got it for like $200 new. It has a Aux port in the front, but also has a USB cable in the back. So you can pluf your Ipod in the back (Using your ipod-2-USB cable) and run it all through the headunit.

Quiet a basic little unit, and well worth the money.

most basic head units will give aux in these days, if you want the full ipod compatibility with ipod controls on the headunit so the song displays and you can change songs on your head unit thats a bit more dear and you will have to get one of the headunits that say ipod compatible and buy an additional adapter

integrated cd players are very annoying, this is pretty much the only way around it, you can then install a single din and a pocket or a double din unit. heres what i did on my dc5s







like i said depends on your budget, fm transmitters yes are much cheaper, and sound that way too! aftermarket headunit with ipod control will set you back about 700 installed with neccesary components but will make your factory system sound awesome.

my friend used an fm transmitter for yrs in his jazz with no issue at all. its as clear as a cd. and it sits nice in the cup holder. you just gotta find a clear station

most can program a few stations in memory too. i think it depends more on how well your antenna works.

I checked my mums jazz and it indeed has a massive AUX button on the interface. I haven't done it, but cant you just run a cable from that AUX-in to the ipod? which will cost you a cable?

A few friends use this for their Ipods in their cars, seems to work quite well while still utilising the stock head unit controls (for their stock head units).

with my gf's jazz, I wired a 3.5mm headphone plug to the back of the head unit. it plugs into the headphone jack on the ipod and sound quality is very good. Purchased the cable from jaycar.

ive been using the XtremeMac AirPlay2 FM Transmitter for 3 or so years with my Nano, and it sits nicely on my dash (left side behind stearing wheel) and has outstanding audio as long as u can find a good freq, mine is 105.3 (altho whenever i drive to swansea i get channel competition).... good thing is it also allows for ipod car charger to plug into the bottom.....dont remember the last time i hooked up headphones to ipod..lol
