Honda to pull out of F1

Sad to see Honda go, through and through i have been an "engine man", i pretty much support whichever team that used a Honda engine in F1. Ive been supporting them back in the late 80's early 90's dominance with Williams then McLaren to BAR and now the full works Honda team. There was a small gap in the late 90's when there was no Honda engine on the grid (although there were Mugen) and with it my passion for F1 was gone, didnt really follow it at all during that time. Only when they came back with BAR in 2000 that i started watching F1 again.

Although sad it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out F1 was just a really hideously expensive marketing exercise. So im not at all surprised to see them leave in this economic climate. Their bottom line comes first, it always does when its a business! Wont be surprised to see all the manufacturers leave with Toyota being the next in-line. How ironic would that be, with only private constructors left..... F1 is an unsustainable sport, especially so now.

I'm suprised that Honda arent even staying in as an engine supplier. I guess they had no existing contract to supply another team so that played as an important factor

So Honda have pulled out of the F1, I would like to see what Honda are going to do with the new "NSX", seeing as the V10 engine was meant to have some F1 "DNA" in it.


Didn't F1 say that by 2010 they didn't want any "privater" teams? (ie all teams must produce there own chassis and engines.)

That's just PR spin. Although I wouldn't be surprised if the newe Honda and the Lexus LS-F are both put on hold until the world interest in supercars increases. Now is not the time to launch $300k cars for the US market.


No, the FIA wanted to have the opposite. One make engines and generic aero kits for closer racing and lower costs.

Yeah I heard a few months ago that Lexus had "postponed" the release of the LS-F due to the financial situation the world is in at the moment... and with Nissan having to revise the price of the GTR, I can imagine Honda also postponing the the "NSX".

Sounds like the FIA was making a few of there ideas for the future known to the public... because I heard the idea you mentioned also... and i remember the reply from some of the bigger manufactures.

soooo devestated, just payed for my trip to melbourne for the f1 gp next year now this, it wont be the same without hondas for me to cheer on.

bad idea. They supply ALL engines to Indu and have failed at F1 over the past 3 years. It's all about return on investment and the ROI from F1 looks worse than a Wall St brokers portfolio.

yeah true but next yr was suppose to be different, less aero, full slicks and we had ross brawn developing the car. also honda spent pretty much the whole second half of last season working on next years car and now they pull the plug, i think they shouldve given it at least 1 more year

the indy engines are nothing compared to f1 engine, in terms of engine development and new technologies, nothing comes close to f1.

Honda have the foresight to start thinking abt the future.
They have stopped producing sports cars and started development on hybrid vehicles well before other manufacturers did
