how do you find out that an EP3 is from EDM or JDM

hi, i'm looking to buy an ep3 in melb instead importing from jap as the YEN r way 2 high up at the top....

but i just can't figure out how do you know the car is from UK or JAP(i mean the JDM one) , i know they r all originally from UK!!

becos the JDM has more power that's y i'm after it..

    thanks

Aren't they all the same, produced in England. A friend has an EP3 which was imported from Japan, and has the UK flag on the back.

I always thought everything was identical, apart from the ECU tune, due to different fuels.

          Well you thought wrong.

Engine is different in the JDM. ( Better cams, compression, IM, Headers, etc )

suspension is more firm and Im sure the sway bars are bigger on the JDM model.

There are also minor interior differences as well.

So I wouldnt call them indentical.

The UK flag is to say the model/chasis was designed in the UK ( dunno which cock head had to put that on )

i'd say the best way to find if it's JDM or not is the VIN.

                  JDM ones are EP3-1xxxxxx.

taken from the UK Civic Type R forum:

What are the differences between the a JDM and a UK CTR.

The differences between the JDM and the Euro CTR are quite significant
though it has to be said.

I'll confirm certain bits that the UK doesn't get as standard with a *

                    Peak Torque Output (N m [ kg m ] /rpm) - 202 [ 20.6 ] /7,000 *

The JDM engine has an uprated engine containing JDM springs, valves, pistons
etc plus it does indeed have a smaller cat.
Different gear ratios and mapping in the Japanese car, along with a
different intake and exhaust manifolds as well.

Also, the JDM car has a different wiring loom , so many electrical bits,
like the HID lights, won't just 'plug in' to a UK CTR.
so from what my understanding here, there is no significant difference by just looking from the outside.

because the EDM (uk version) can also option the recaro seat and the "momo steering" <---not sure about the steering

beside that you have to look deeply inside this car to c whether they have the LSD install or not......?????

or the only way to find out which version is from the VIN (easiest way)???

Here ya go, there's a thread on Ephatch.com with a helpful vid covering this topic:

UKDM Type R vs. JDM Type R

BTW, one nice clue is that if it's Champ White then it's JDM.

if what the guy (philip) said above you is true (we have no reason to doubt) then the VIN number IS the easiest way...

I have a stupid question. Is there really going to be many UKDM EP3Rs in Australia? I would have thought it not really economical to import one from there unless it was a private import.

                              why not?

                              it is just sea freight?

currencies are all farked too... so what is the reason?
