help my mummy buy a new car...

    Hey friends!

So mummy has returned from overseas (After working in taiwan for the last 4 years) and needs a car.

Budget = 15-23k (i know this is a broad budget)
Needs to be Brand new car + Auto.

Things important to her - fuel , solid, not a tiny engine with no power.

What I had to convince her was important to her - comfortable, *feels* safe and *feels* nice and *right* when inside.

I guess here is a list of different cars available that we have come up with.

Honda Civic base model - 23k
I havent had the chance to get up close and personal to one of these as yet, but they have alwasy appealed to me. Big wide, looks comfy, 2l engine (i know its a heavy 1300+kg). In terms of safety, it might be one of the more safer cars (along with the Mazda 3).

Honda Jazz base model - 17k
I think jazz's are cool. That is all

Ford Fiesta base model - 18k
Test drove this car, and it was pretty rubbish inside. When sitting inside, everything inside the car felt like it was scrappy and just put together by some blind dude with left over plastics. It was relatively sturdy, but just didnt feel right. Seats too narrow. All plastics were ahrd edged and rough. Aesthetically it looked like rubbish inside.

    Toyota Corolla Acsent - 22k (?)
Inside looks like a space ship LOL But it seems practical and 1.8l engine will probably out do any other car on the list. Spacey and popular car.

    Mazda Genki 2 - 20k
Now this car was the winner for me interms of the interior. It was absolutely flawless in its aesthetic design, and space, and comfort. Sitting in it just felt right, and comfortable. Even the seats *slightly* resembled a bucket seat. Everything just looked and felt right. Possibly the only thing that might let it down is the 76kw 1.5l engine, but we havent test driven it as yet - so it still may surprise.

    Mazda 3 base model - 25k (?)
Girlfriend drives one, and it is a pretty decent car. And obviously a winner for mazda. Good interior, power, space etc etc.

So, is there any other car we should be looking at? Any experience or opinions? Help a brother (and his mother) out!

    Thanks all!

Polo TDI. They're $22,990 drive away until the end of the month. Solid, safe, best fuel economy of the lot (5.0l/100km) and won Australia's best small car 2 years in a row.

Also, the base Civic is a 1.8l from memory. Only the Sport gets the K20.

Another vote for the Polo TDI

I've taken one for a test drive and stuff and it's pretty nice...definitely feels comfortable and pretty solid...the doors were so heavy! LOL

It's still ages away. I heard July-August recently on JDMST I think.

surprised how nice the interior of the new corolla was, plus you can't go wrong with toyota reliability.

                      or Go for Corrola 1.8L.

                        hey guys,

thanks heaps for the replies so far. i got reallyy excited about the polo after your mentions, but then realsied thats the manual price, auto = +2k. 25 is over the budget.

mum being mum is being weird and keeps saying random things based on hear-say from other wierd asian mums etc and shes saying "i'll prolly get the corolla or an astra". I'm like why? and she has no reason, just becuase some other old fart asian friends say they are good cars - but cant explain why lol... ARGH so stressful!
