help needed - insurance in perth

    hey guys,

kinda urgent as my policy is due for renewal!!! my insurance company has valued my dc5r for 21k.. i've spent quiet a bit on mods (which i know doesnt increase the value of the car, just makes it sell easier). my car has done quiet a few kms but i've known a few type Rs in perth that have been selling around the same year as mine going anywhere between 25-30k!!

if my car gets written off, no way i would like 21k then have to put in extra money for another type R... i asked them where they are getting their information off and they said redbook.com.au. i told them that the website is eastern states market value and not perth, and the costs of type Rs in perth on private sale etc.

they advised me to get a 3rd party evaluation from a professional evaluator, honda specialist or honda dealer.. could any1 recommend a credible/decent evaluator in perth?? preferably not a honda dealer as dealers will just give you an evaluation thats good for them.

    thanks for ur help!

21K is better than nothing either take it find a new insurer or go without.

the value given on redbook.com.au is what the industry will use to value a car.
what a car yard sells their cars/stock at is up to them, what people are willing to pay are up to the person handing over the money.
      i think you're stuck there.

with my TypeS, they depreciated my car by 10% from last year from $36k to $34,400.
I called them back, and they asked a few questions and increased the value insured to $35k. this is with Just Cars

i got mine valued at 32k last time round (march 07) with my wheels on it.

that was with RAC, they were the cheapest too.

i went with rac...they let you value ur car at what you want, and only pay a lil bit more thats it. mods are covered also so thats always a bonus
btw for reference, im 21, dc2r valued at agreed 20k. premium is 1.1k, excess is 750.

called RAC, they will only insure for market value (19k) and will not cover my modifications...

SGIO are ok, they will cover 35k but wanna charge me $1800 in premium (double what im paying now).

thanks for all ur advice... mite march into my insurnace company and show them my quotes.

Go with Suncorp, they will insure your mods as well and it's cheaper than Just Cars.

yeh.. just car was pretty sh*t quote.. 19k and they will let me have whatever mods but my excess is 2.5k as opposed to $400 with my insurance company.

then the dude explained to me that its an expensive unfortunate hobby and i shouldnt expect to get all my money back i've spent if my car was written off/stolen. he said his hsv is worth 15k market value but in reality he could get 5-7k more because its a collectors item in the private market..

so im thinking if i should just bite the bullet and accept that insurance is just there to get ur money and just stay with my existing insurance company, premium isnt too expensive, excess is low and the value is not as low as 19k!!!

i've called a few insurance companies and majority of them dont want to insure my car because i have an exhaust or its been lowered!!!
