They do love the handling so it is not all bad. And it still wins the test. The focus of my thread is Hondas quoted 6.6.
the focus of my post is the honda 6.6 claim too, discuss...

(and LOL at 'true' speed at indicated 100km/h)

    Interesting.

7.8 is around what you would expect given the weight and the changes in gearing compared to a DC5. Makes one wonder where Honda pulled 6.6 seconds from .

this is why jdm ftw :P dam pommys and false info :P hehehe

i dont know how much of a difference this could make but maybe the true performance only really comes 2 shine once the engine has been worn in ? donno, just thought i throw in some defence for the so called civic 'type r'... lol

aswell, the car journo's are not the best drivers around...

i reserve my honest opinion when i see a warn in civic type r attempt these times...

when we do PD's on new cars at work... we dont check for if the car is the better of them all... (there all fucked :P with peugeots hehehe) but sereasly, u cant choose the 'better' one.. how are we meant 2 choose the better one ?

do u mean one that has been already warn in with 10,000kms on it already ? lol... coz that would be a fair bit of driving for such a short amount of time....

            please explain, excuse my ignorance

shifty - maybe you need some "perspective"

              here it is:

              manufacturer claimed 0-100km/h:

              Golf GTI = 7.2
              Mini Cooper S = 7.1
              Civic Type R = 6.6

              actual tested realworld/same day/same place/same people 0-100km/h:

              Golf GTI = 7.3
              Mini Cooper S = 7.4
              Civic Type R = 7.8

yeah fair enough mate. but maybe the peugot isnt really put through performance testing too much.

It is only logical to submit your best for testing.

On one of the nsx episodes on best motoring they had a race with 5 nsx-r's and the honda press car is abnormally fast compared to the rest some even modified nsx's.

of course this doenst have to apply for aussie conditions though

jing: fair enough man... i was talking about the 207 gt and gti though... but i inderstand what u mean... thanks

                  point taken..

tinkers: lol.. pritty sad... hehehe... shows that turbo's go faster easier (straight line anyways wich honda is not really about) but dont u think they new this already? if they would of expected mid 6 sec times wouldnt it been up against the r32 golf and the likes ?

iv said this on other forums and ill say it here... the new civic 'type r' to me is more a 'type s' not saying that type s's are slow it means a sports car.. to me a type r is a car that is raw, especialy like the nsx-r,ek9 and dc2r.. but where i am getting at is, with the new safety standards and all that crap that cars must have 2 day, can honda really make a real type r again ? i know they can but are they aloud 2 ?? a type r isnt just a 'fast' car it has a feeling of being raw and race breed... (i know that is a bit off topic just wanted 2 say it :P hehe)

                  Cheers Dave

It one hell of an overstatement thats for sure...

Motor magazine actually ran a comparo between the new CTR and the VW GTI and 3 MPS, and unashamedly made constant note of the huge dispaity in power and straight line shove, obviously in comparison to the MPS. They mentioned that it didnt have the kick of previous r's in terms of the cutover which is down at 5400 now...

As anticipated, they did say that it was the most dynamically pleasing, and most rewarding and "fun" to drive... kinda what we expected really...

                      history lesson/recap of the last decade: DC2R > DC5R > DC5S > FN2R

and answer to "are they aloud 2 ??" = FD2

which is weird, as this is not what is coming out of european press (e.g. EVO magazine)...

Haha. Its like saying "shes pretty ugly, but got a good personality"

Thanks for the info - like everyone else, the stats are pretty dissapointing from Honda and I'm curious to see what their response is. Anybody willing to write a letter to Honda Australia? I might do it if nobody else is interested.

I thought it was Honda UK that quoted 6.6s...and the marketing people here in Oz just went with what they were given.

...so yet again, another thing we can blame the pommys for...
