The stud itself is the same.

Are you tightening them up with a torque wrench?
          Stock wheels?

if a torque wrench is that gun used in workshops then no, we just used the wrench that comes with the car...

You probably ended up over-tightening with the wheel brace.

Buy a torque wrench and torque 'em up to around 100-110nm.

Torque wrench is a tool which lets you tighten nuts/bolts etc to a pre-set load. About $80 for Kinchrome one @ bunnings or $40 from supercheapauto.

                EDIT: that's called a rattle/air gun.

omg! I had this problem however the studs got bent because some ninny lowered the car without tightening them correctly, which bent three studs.
You cannot just replace the studs either as there is no clearance between the brake dust shield and the hub. In the end I had to get the whole hub assembly removed the studs removed and repressed "WARNING" this procedure will most likley damage the bearing when the hub is removed and can cost up to $500 to repair, although luckily mine was fine.

Moral of the story, use the correct tools and technique when doing anything on your car.
                      Just along for the ride

I didn't torque mine either...since I'm not really strong, I just jump (note: I am really light as well) on the wrench until it clicks...hahaha
