haha mugsee that's hilarious... would love the R32 but i'm more of a tuning fanatic and the tuning capabilities of the R32 are abit poor. Even if it's still a polo.. its got the 1.8t engine from the previous golf gti which has a large market for it already...

... oh back on topic lol i did take pictures of the pothole and thought i'd bring it up to the local council; but was contemplating if it was worth the hassle to just replace one tyre as my rims are fine.

I thought if it was repairable i'd just do that - but since ppl say i rather buy a new tyre... i think i might go ahead of notifying the council again haha!

Haha Eddy. How do you think I got my car?

Heres the link to the thread I was referring to. IMO its worth a try giving the council an earful about it - what've you got to lose? Also, what if down the track you discover that your suspension components were also affected? At least you'd have something you could try pinning to your coucil.

Okayokay. If the R32 isn't for you, how about a Golf GTI into an Polo GTI? You gotta try it at least Let us know how you go with that!

What tyres does the Polo GTI has?? $400 a pop for a 16inch is pretty steep. Maybe you can try the new Bridgestone Adrenlin. Its only 2-300 a pop and yet almost top of the street tyre range.

They're continental sport contact 2's... and I'm mistaken about the price - I got quoted $320 for the 16" ... the $400 pricetag i got was from another vw forum for 17"

I feel I'm getting jipped as i got the quote from the distributer; i might try beaurepaires or bob jane.. I'm definately replacing the tyre though!

Would performance be drastically affected with 3 tyres having about 70% of tread and one being 100% ... or should I put two 100% at the fronts and the old ones on the back?

i would put the new one at the back, and don't bother rotating it...then just change the fronts...

may not be the best idea tho...

You should replace the tire without a doubt. It will eventually grow a blister on the outside of the tire and could possibly lead into a blow out.

I have had two tyres repaired. Both of them I then drove on for another 15-20 000km's. Take it to a tyre repair place and they will tell you if it can be fixed or not. It's very common.

I had one other puncture that they refused to fix, so I had to get a new tyre.

chuck, I think you are referring to a puncture that was caused by a nail, screw, sharp object. The original poster was referring to something that was caused by high impact, high impact damages cannot be repaired. Punctures can.

Change both the fronts if you can't afford all 4.
Then later on move the fronts to the rear and get new fronts again

Your front wheels do the steering and the driving.

                            Funny story relating to that...

For a little while there I had brand new Michelin PP2 on the front with about 80% worn Michelin PP1's on the rear... one of the benefits of the newer PP2 was far greater wet weather grip. Imagine what this made my car feel like!

I did an Oxley Highway run (three actually) over the Easter Break in less than ideal conditions (wet/dry/mossy roads) with a scarily oversteery beast. Even the *slightest* lift of the throttle mid corner would make the rear want to overtake the front.

... makes Eastern Creek feel like a walk in the park.

I experienced the same in my previous Type R in the wet... old tyres rear, new tyres front. Around a corner I regularly take near my house I spun and damaged the right rear. It spun at low speed, with no warning, I got on full opposite luck but it wasn't enough!

... guess i won't push the car to it's limits then in that case
