I got $40K - what car to buy?

Hey guys,

i'm starting to look for a car to replace my dc5 with and i can't decide which so all comments/opinions appreciated. I'm looking for something that has a bit more comfort than my dc5, something subtle and something that still has a bit of go.

cars i like so far -

New Golf Gti - with dsg
Mazda rx8
audi s3

new golf gti with dsg - can get for $42 000 new
mazda rx8 - can get for $40k second hand
audi - $33 but getting old now

dont want a wrx or evo and euro a bit old man for me - any other ideas anyone?

I'm leaning toward an rx8

what about the s2000 or do you need more than 2 seats.

if your leaning towards the RX8, then you should consider the 350z TRACK.

both are very nice but i already have a 2 seater car/convertible so definately need four seats.

i got the brochure for the type r in the mail yesterday, looks great but it's going to be around $45k drive away which i think is just too much for that car. It's sad to say but unless the ctr comes in at $40k i'd prefer the golf gti *puts on flame suit*

yeh there is a civic type R for sale on carpoint.com.au
look for it, its white, not bad, imported from japan, dont know how they did it...but its coming apparently, only $25k

other positive about the golf is that for $2000 you can get an apr tune to lift power to nearly 200kw

Golf GTI is definitely a nice car and worth the coin! The four door has an awesome road stance! BTW - do they come in 3-door or is that the Polo GTI?
