    Parts from Japan. Import Taxes?

    Hi CITR!

I've been longing to purchase some goods from RHDJapan, Nengun etc...

Wanting to find out more about our local import taxes.
How much should I be expecting to be charged on ~$900 of goods?

I'd love to read about your experiences.

    Thank you.
    Have a good weekend.

    Cost of goods + frieght + 5% customs duty + 10% gst

Half the time it works out to be just as cost effictive to purchase from local suppliers

What exactly are you looking at buying mryangtastic?
Mixed goods that total $1200 or one single part?

I'm looking to buy RM01A and Window Visors. EP3.

Sorry, I got the amount wrong.
It's actually ~890AUD of mixed goods.
        - OEM Window Visors EP3 - 14780yen
        - Fujitsubo RM01A EP3 - 68258yen
        29215yen shipping. Around 315AUD.

Total would be ~1200AUD. My bad.

I just want to see what options are out there. I've had a look at the prices from JDM Concept and JDM Yard.
RM01A from them are reaching above 1380AUD, no delivery.
Just wanted to know the import taxes, to see if it is worthwhile ordering from a Japanese parts site.

I recently rang up Customs regarding importing goods.

              http://www.customs.gov.au/faq/DutyGST.asp

Basically, the sum of parts valued under $1000 excluding shipping, will you not have to pay any fees.

Here's my recent purchase with RhdJapan:

When I imported my wheels from PerfectRun Japan, the total value was a little bit over 3k, so I had them send a pair of wheels in two shipments plus a third shipment for hub rings & centre caps and insured each shipment of wheels for $999 and the value of the rest of the shipment therefore avoiding import tax. If you can get them to do that, you can avoid tax.

I import parts from the US for my E30. As long as you keep it under a grand it just seems to arrive on your doorstep.

Why from the US when BMW Australia could supply the parts? Because what sets me back 600US shipped is usually over 2500Au and while it will take BMW Au 4-12 weeks to provide it from Germany, I can get it from the US in under 2 weeks.

It's the same for Honda Au sadly.

Word of caution..... According to the literature, the cost must INCLUDE the postage, so if your item is $950, and the postage is $200, the total value of the import is $1150, and you MUST then pay GST on the total amount including the postage.

                          FROM the Govt. Website:

For imported goods the value of the taxable importation (VoTI) is the sum of:

                          • the customs value (CV)

                          • any duty payable

                          • the amount paid or payable to transport the goods to Australia and to insure the goods for that transport (T&I)

ANOTHER thing to be cautious of:

If you do break down an order into 2 or more multiple lots, delivered to the same address in a very short period of time, the Govt. may recognise this as you using fraudulent means to avoid paying GST.

You may then be liable for the GST, plus potentially a fine for attempting to avoid the GST.

                          Again, from the website:

If you are receiving multiple packages from the same supplier within a few days of each other and the total value exceeds AU$1000 you will be required to submit an import declaration for the entire consignment. Similar rules apply if you have submitted an order from a single supplier for goods valued over $1000 in total, but are receiving them as part shipments.

So, make sure you stay under $1000 including shipping, and if you have several packages, get them delivered to several addresses, your mums, your sisters, etc, to avoid any potential problems.
