    Modding DC5R ! Need your advice !

    hey guys,

ive owned my dc5r for 2 months now and within that time ive completed all the service items upgraded brake pads all round (acre super fighter red), hardrace engine mounts, exedy sports organic clutch, koni yellows with jumbo springs.

the major plan initially, for my dc5 was exhaust headers intake rbc inlet high flow cat and kpro/tune.

basically, i am a uni student and really want to settle with an evo but decided not to buy one till i work full time after uni. so i bought my second option instead, the dc5r, meaning i will only keep it till i finish uni and work full time for a while which will be about 2-3 years or so.

either way i will do cold air intake and kpro with tune but my question is, is it worth for me to do headers exhaust high flow cat and rbc inlet or should i keep my money aside saving for my next car ?

im asking in terms of power gain/performance/ money aspect (since they will be expensive together).

will it make much more of a better difference doing these along with the intake and kpro or should the kpro tune and intake be satisfing enough ?

i know this is a broad question i tried searching the net to see the gains in just intake and kpro but couldnt find much so your advice is really appreciated.

    thanks !

You can get some decent cat back exhaust for a decent price, but headers are very expensive. Gains yes they are great but if you want to sell your car later you wont get anywhere near the money you poured into it.

The biggest gains will be intake (like injen or gruppe m), exhaust (many good cat backs out there) and tune. They will give the biggest gains you will receive on the first hit. After that you can be spending serious money to get small gains and wont really increase the value in the car that much not to mention if you don't get all the mods at once retunes can kill the pocket.

Maybe look for 2nd hand but that is at your own risk.

All comes down to how much you are willing to fork out and not have returned when you sell the car

If you intend to get an Evo, don't spend money on the DC5R.

Get rims (17x8+30 through to 17x9+22), and keep it at that.

If you going to have for 2-3 years only then just exhaust and intake and wheels. Save the rest to get a better conditioned Evo.

hmmm so it seems to be better to get a cat back with injen and obviously intake and kpro with tune as i stated.

wouldnt it be pointless to get a catback without headers because of the restriction at the upper end ? (just my theory ).
how much would i be looking at for a set of good headers ?

i know that if i was to get a catback im looking at 1500 brand new as im specifically after the powergetter or rm01a , and that is some big bucks as it is. i know that the kpro is approx 1100ish but how much should i consider to pay for a tune ?

will the catback help in much power gain or will it be more noise than gain ?

Plm are good bang for buck headers. Fujitsubo powergetter or rm01a best bang for buck catback. If you plan on selling then keep the mods simple otherwise you will lose morr money on the sale. Intake, catback and headers. Forget the kpro and tune. Will cost you at least $2k for a new kpro and tune. Won't add $2k in value to the car.

where you from, if you are buying new rm01a 1500 is a bit much. i can suggest a supplier if you're in vic shoot me a pm.

dont do kpro until you have other mods done.

catback without headers is fine. have you looked at engine mounts ?

im from sydney, as stated in my first post " ive completed all the service items upgraded brake pads all round (acre super fighter red), hardrace engine mounts, exedy sports organic clutch, koni yellows with jumbo springs." .

i plan on getting better tyres next then intake.

say i was to headers and catback next, is it ok to do them without a tune ? wouldnt my car run rich/lean ??

should i get a high flow cat with them ? or new 02 sensors ? or not required ?

when you do i/h/e do you need to upgrade your cat or replace 02 sensors

i'm curious about running rich as well. Dont like intakes, but have put on mugen twinloop, and think im using a bit more fuel (about 10% more), but that might just be a change in driving style.

I'm doing buddyclub headers next (with hi-flow cat), for that you will need to get a new sway bar (JDM dc5r, ep3r, whiteline etc), engine mounts, and extend your 02 wire (buy a kit off ebay/k-series parts, or solder them yourself).

Just for my 2 cents- i drove my car for about 2 years and 20,000km before my first mod, helped me appreciate the stock engineering and the joys of owning a car. I dont think my newer mods have really changed things, for me its about the experience and the destinations. I would say spend the money on fuel and go discover new roads and places

yeah thats what im thinking, higher fuel consumption which is a down fall for myself being a uni studnet and the car being my daily.
will you have to change the 02 sensor in the cat ?
and the wiring kit, is it just an extra wire can you link me to what you are talking about please ?

ive already changed my mounts but why is it you have to change them when you do headers ?

it is easier to get to the rear mounts when you have the headers removed. It is not necessary but it does make the job easier

It's more that the stock mounts allow more engine movement and lead to cracks in some headers due to stress.
