    DC5R vs EP3??

    This has probably been covered a million times, but i couldn't find anything so i thought i would ask anyway lol
    DC5r or ep3?
    So they both run the same standard k20a engine and the dc5r is in fact lighter than the ep3, you would then assume that the dc5 is faster right? However, many people say the ep3 is faster and better.
    So which is faster, and which is more responsive?

    Can anyone share factual evidence in which can contrast the two and suggest which is better overall?

    The australian spec DC5R is the same as the American spec Type S. They in fact, don't run the k20A like the JDM but run the K20A2 instead. 160 kw ish produced by the K20A in comparison to the 147 kw from the Aus spec. It's kind of hard to compare the two. The DC5 is more like a coupe than a hatch and the EP3 is without a doubt a hatch. When you say 'better' it's hard to determine what you're getting at.

    They both run very similar (basically identical) suspension setups however, the DC5 has thicker threaded end tie rod ends than the EP3 which would count a bit toward how the suspension geometry works under load. Also on the rear, the eyelet near the bottom of the shock is thicker on the DC5 (Not by much, but enough to require washers if installing an EP3 suspension onto a dc5). Since most parts of the EP3 and DC5 can be freely swapped over to the other car, I'd say to be honest, they're almost the same car in terms of performance on the track.

        I see the Aus dc5r as a bit of a bastard child, which you can really liken to both the US or JDM dc5, but as performance goes the ep3 is quicker than our dc5 due mainly to fact it packs the k20a engine and ecu. It's nothing that can't be overcome with a few mods though.
        Personally I think it should just come down to styling preference, I love the dc5 and its classic coupe look, I think the ep3 is a little awkward in pictures but much nicer in the flesh, question is which one do you like the look of? And can you find one you'd be happy owning?

          So good with le words aren't you nate. I've always thought the EP3 shifter was awkward looking in photos now that you mention it.

            I thought that about the EP3 shifter as well, until I drove a few. Feels perfect once you get used to it.

              I've driven both ep3 and dc5. Here are my experiences summarised (stock for stock)

              - Hands down, the ep3 is quicker than the dc5 as it has the JDM k20a compared to the AUDM k20a2
              - even though the shifter position looks weird, it feels great when you are seated
              - If you are a bigger person like myself, the ep3 seats are more comfortable as they dont support as much as sr4 recaro seats
              - the dc5 recaro seats have more bolster support to hug you in the seat
              - to me the ep3 felt more responsive than the dc5
              - the ep3 is an import and most importers do wind the Km's back, the only way to tell original km's is by looking over the import papers i believe
              - personally the dc5 looks better to me over the ep3
              - with a few mods on to the dc5 (e.g. I/H/E) you can make the dc5 just as good as the performance of the ep3
              - honda australia is gay for not bringing in the JDM dc5 into australia

              Hope that helps

                JDM vs JDM, DC5 > EP3 . Check out (Best ?) Motoring International subbed video on DC5 they did a comparison of it against EP3 and other cars. On the track it was able to beat non-Sti Rex due to the brembos which the EP3 didn't have and couldn't keep up.

                AUDM stock DC5 is obviously not as good as stock JDM EP3 but that's what mods are for right .

                  EP3R with bolt ons always seem to run much faster times then Dc5r with bolt ons on the quater. This isnt just comparing 2 or 3. I have noticed this many times.

                      It's not how you race your car, it's how you stand by your car.

                      but it's really subjective.

                      I want a hatch -> EP3

                      I want a coupe -> DC5

                      I want hugging Recaros -> DC5

                      I want JDM-ness -> EP3

                        Julie wants an EP3R. i reckon dc5 ftw.

                        its better styled, the EP3 is a jazz thats beefed up IMHO.

                        imo I rather pay the $13-14k for a DC5R over an EP3R.
